Better Search... Beginning with Mac OS X 10.4, Spotlight took away the ability to search deeply in your hard drive. You could not search packages nor could you search in invisible directories. Better Search attempts to correct that. While it is not as pretty as Spotlight it does allow one to have greater control over a search. But this comes at a cost. Better search does use a high level of cpu time and memory. You can run multiple searches at the same time, search in packages, search visible and invisible directories and search case insensitive or not. Better Search will also allow

... and two years, to the day, after the last review...

Looks nice, and works fine an older machine under Snow Leopard... but is it just me, or does this not launch at all under Mountain Lion 10.8.1?

i was pulling my hair out looking for a file. i knew it was on my drive, but spotlight couldn't find it. this found it in 4 seconds. spotlight is a joke. this is the real deal. i seriously can't believe osx is that useless. save yourself the headache. keep this handy. it actually works! THANK YOU to the developer.

A bit slow, but it can find visibles/invisibles files even in packages. Very very useful when you spotlight fails. And it's free. Thanks to the author.

Try "EasyFind", you can drag the search-folder in EasyFinds window, that's more comfortable

Better Search does a good job; but with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Spotlight is able to find System files and doing searches in invisible directories.

I never liked spotlight to begin with. An while I have not found the way to get spot light to find my system files, unix files and hidden files, I'm not saying your assertion is incorrect. However when searching with my utility vs. spotlight I get far more results with mine no matter the criteria I choose for spotlight.

Better Search will also allow you to either only search for Directories or files, or both. Keep in mind when you search that Bundles such as Applications, are considered by the system to be directories. This will possibly be accounted for in a future release but for now you must choose to find either files and folder, or folders if you are looking for applications or other bundles.
