Scans2PDF

1.5
04 September 2008

Takes a folder of scans, adjusts them and turns them into single PDF.

Overview

Scans2PDF... This program takes a folder of files and uses Photoshop to (optionally) crop, resize, and adjust the brightness and contrast to optimize the images for US letter size paper. It then rotates the images as directed, and combines the images into one PDF. It is, as the name suggests, designed for scans (of journal articles).

You can optionally:

  • have Photoshop resize the scans to best fit onto US letter paper, leaving appropriate margins
  • have Photoshop adjust the brightness and contrast to enhance the readability of the scans
  • interactively, but with a smart default, crop out binding regions and other unwanted potions of the scans
  • archive the original scan files using zip

What's new in Scans2PDF

Version 1.5: Added the ability to cancel processing, and fixed a small bug or two.

I was looking for something like this. What a pity, then, that it's dependent on PhotoShop, which I don't have. How about a stand-alone app?

Yes indeed. Either standalone or perhaps use GraphicConverter, which far, far more people probably have or could at least afford. Great idea, but you could probably make some money on it eventually if you could appeal to a broader market. Photoshop's a deal killer for most I would assume.
