Launch Time Machine directly from Dashboard.

Overview

Time Machine Launcher widget is a simple widget that allows you to launch Time Machine directly from the comfort of your Dashboard. You'll not need to have the Time Machine icon in your dock anymore! Simply open the application or the folder you want to revert back in time, and click on the Time Machine icon in your Dashboard, it's as easy as that!

Features:

  • The easiest widget ever... Just click on the widget to launch Time Machine and there you are, ready to go back in time!
  • Force Time Machine to backup You can force Time Machine to backup when you want, you don't need to wait for the backup each hour!
  • Turn ON and OFF Time Machine You don't want Time Machine to backup anymore? Simply click on the cross button of the widget!
  • Choose the size of the widget... You already have a lot of widgets in your Dashboard? Just choose a smaller size for the Time Machine Launcher widget! The size of your widget will be saved on your computer as well as on your .mac account automatically.
  • Be aware of a new version automatically... When the widget is updated, you will see it directly on the widget. One click and you will download the new version of the widget.

So instead of invoking Time Machine with the Dock icon - 1 click. Good Times. :) I have to invoke Dashboard first then the Time Machine widget - 2 clicks. Bad Times. :(

I like the concept but it seems it is not working properly in SL. The widget does not chance its color and turning on/off does not change the Time Machine menu icon.

Nifty; I don't want junk in the dock either and I do use the "Backup Now" option fairly often each day for backing up development directories. Dashboard is active in the LH screen corner, so zip-click from anywhere and that's done. My *nix days go back to PARC and this is just the sort of widget that GUIs are good for.

pretty pointless.. though, it makes me want to make a widget that will load the finder window. or i could make one that loads safari. maybe one that shuts down the computer?

Thank you very much! For me, another click is just fine to not have something in my dock that I rarely use.

Same reaction here. :) Unless I'm missing something this widget gets my vote as one of the most useless ones I've seen yet. Maybe some people are actually using OS X primarily from Dashboard instead of the traditional Desktop environment?

I'm not using Time Machine every day (I hope it's the same thing for you) so, I don't like to have icons that I don't use a lot in my dock. That's why I did this widget, to launch Time Machine from my Dashboard instead to go in my Application Folder.

Or you can activate Spotlight, and type "tim" + enter. This is usually enough to launch Time Machine ;-)

You guys should quit criticizing this developer, he made something that that is useful for him, and he thought he would share it with the world. If you don't like it, don't use it. Just don't criticize it. Everybody uses the computer differently.
