Well shame on me for reading "OS X 10.4 or later" but not noticing "Intel" on the line above it. (My weather station computer is a repurposed G4 Mac mini.) Shame on Davis Instruments for not having their installer run a compatibility check before screwing up my computer. Also shame on Davis Instruments for abandoning legacy hardware while at the same time not abandoning legacy operating systems. I've been working all day trying to restore my mini to working order.
Weatherlink for Mac is horribly overpriced (only sold bundled with their crazy expensive "datalogger") and lacks many features found in free weather software. The Mac version is also far behind the pc version...
Worse : Davis VOLUNTARILY blocks all consoles upgraded (or sold) with firmware (from 1.90 to 3.0 and now 3.12)... Now, all customers wanting to share their weather data on the internet (fex. on wunderground.com) MUST buy a crazy expensive datalogger form Davis. Just Google the so called "Green dot datalogger problem". Before the 3.0 firmware "upgrade" many cheap third party dataloggers and even a simple RaspberryPi used to work perfectly fine with the vantage consoles. There are workarounds but those aren't for the non experts as it's pretty complicated and costs money and time.
WARNING ! -> Without crazy expensive original Davis "green dot" datalogger YOU WONT be able to log, share and use your weather data...
Companies like Davis may soon be out of business... Customers are no idiots and the word spreads fast this days... !
