MySQL browser with charts.

Overview

Entrance is a browser for MySQL databases tuned for exploring data. It uses your data to draw histograms, line charts, and more. Entance also supports an innovative data mining feature we call "data painting" and an explorer tree with drag and drop support for tables, queries, and scripts. The integrated SQL script editor, with its built-in error detection feature, lets you edit and run SQL scripts against your data."

This does not work out of the box as stated in the developer's website. It complains about a classpath not being set or of some file not unzipped. There are no instructions on how to fix this. The app runs but it can't connect to anything.

We are working on better documentation for the "average joe". Meanwhile, I hope this will help... Step One is to "Install MySQL and Entrance" if you haven't already: http://dbentrance.com/newdocs/installation.html If you are just getting started with MySQL(r), get a book like "Learning SQL" or "The MySQL Cookbook" and run the examples using Entrance. (To run a query, click the Entrance "New" button, enter the query, then click the "Run" button) As you are learning, be sure to use the "MySQL Syntax" item in the Entrance Help menu, which makes it easy to search for help. (Try highlighting INSERT in a query and looking for help this way) What makes Entrance more fun than conventional IDEs is that you can make charts of query results on-the-fly. Basically, you add an Entrance PLOT section to a MySQL SELECT command an you have a chart. So, learn a little SQL, then check out the Entrance blog, http://dbentrance.com/blog/ for examples. Also, read the PLOT syntax document: http://dbentrance.com/newdocs/plotsyntax.html. If you find yourself stuck, or have a question, please email support@entrance.com or join the Entrance Google Group and post a question there. Also, be sure to check out the "Documentation" links on our web site, http://dbentrance.com/, which include a link to the Entrance FAQ. Best regards, Tod Landis

In response to egn... Unfortunatley I didn't see your post here until just now. (We actually have a support email address for issues like this, which is "support@dbentrance.com", We also have a support page with a FAQ: http://dbntrance.com/Support.html) Maybe the best thing is for you to try our new version and let me know what happens. 1.2.87 will be appearing here and on http://dbentrance.com/ soon.
