TabMeister for Mac3.0

08 September 2008

Organize files into tabs instead of the Dock.

What is TabMeister for Mac

TabMeister is a desktop utility that allows the user to organize applications, files, and folders into "Tabs" which act like pop-up windows sitting on the edge of the screen. Rather than cramming dozens of files into the Dock, these Tabs now allow for better organization of all of the files that users commonly need. TabMeister gives you immediate access to hundreds of files without cluttering the Dock or desktop.

It seems it is not possible to create tabs that appear in any Spaces screen selected. Tabs only appear on the Spaces screen they were created on..

Does this application do the same thing as Overflow and RapidoStart? Both free and available here on MacUpdate.

This is a straightforward, in-your-face app which does what it says and vice versa; and very responsively at that. All I want are a few more customization options, such as the ability to click and drag tabs, change their individual colors, reduce cpu usage, and I'm sold. I think Pangea's entry into this genre is most welcome and a long time in coming. They are the best shareware game makers bar none (save, perhaps, Ambrosia), and I fully expect them to deliver the same consistency in quality, imagination and innovation in this genre that they've shown with their games.

It seems really responsive. Much moreso than anything I've seen which is remotely similar and available for OS X. Wishlist: I'd like to see the ability to customize the tab (and text) colors and borders; Tab 'click' selection option in addition to 'hover' and as a side-benefit of that, draggable tabs. ;) The only real downside I see at present is it uses quite a bit of cpu on my setup -- nearly 5% while seemingly idle. I'd like to see this drop to below 1% if possible. Picky, I know ; )

I admire the courage of Pangea Software for entering into a hard-to-win competition dominated by excellent file launching programs like DragThing, Launchbar, etc. I doubt such bravery can win them much success but am confident they know very well how to play their hand. After all they have long been wonderful game-makers!

This is just what I wanted to group my Apps into categories relevant to my projects. It's simple, fast, clean, and looks good. I know Tiger is on the way etc... but this is what I need right now, and at a price that is very fair. Plus..."Bling" is just good old Mac fun!

Seems nice and fast, even on an old G4 400mhz. But none of the Bling (except weather map) work, -error not enough vram. Looks like a great way to organize your applications!

Great little, useful program. Will help me not clutter up my Dock, yet at the same time give me quick access to my most used applications. Very intuitive. One look at the initial set up and I was able to immediately set up tabs and store apps as I desired.

Might be good tool to put applications into categories, such as iApps, Graphic, Web, Audio and Office. I still like using QuickSilver, much easier to get too, and has so many multi-uses.

I love Overflow, and it looks like Apple does, too. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, etc.) I'll probably test this software. It sounds like organization I need. But like other posts, I wonder if Leopard will trump all the shareware apps this fall.

With OS X Leopard a few months away this looks a useful little launcher in the same style as DragThing and Overflow and like the OS8/9 days of folders being dragged down into pop-up windows. It has that funky large 'heads-up' display icon to show what application you are about to launch. Worth a look if you don't have any of the other leading shareware launchers.

This reminds me of the OS9 feature in Finder where you could have tabbed folders. Very cool! I use that feature already, though, with DragThing, under Mac OS X. I may still give this a try on my one Mac without DragThing installed.
