I own this software and originally rated it 4 STARS. After numerous issues and zero response to emails to the developer, I can only assume he has abandoned this program. I am dropping my rating to 1/2 STAR. Let the buyer beware!

I've been using this for about a year for local backups and to clone certain folders between my primary laptop drive and a backup laptop. Performing backups over a network requires manually mounting the backup laptop each time I want to do backups. That is a bit of a pain, but I understand.

I have an issue with Sync3 and have not received any response from Nobu, the Developer. The issue is that my Sync3 is set to auto-start and perform backups on Sundays. However, I instead of one version of Sync3 running, I get at least 2 versions of Sync3 open simultaneously each Sunday morning. There is only ONE version of Sync3 in my Application folder on my primary hard drive. I suspect the reason for the multiple versions has to do with the fact that my primary drive is cloned to 2 external backup drives. No other software I own does this.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks, Sync Sync Sync it saves my life...
I had problem after a full reinstall to copy an iPhoto Library from a back up to the new system...the Finder gaves error in the middle, tried many different ways...
Then, tadadam Sync Sync Sync arrived...and in no time ;-) copied the whole iPhoto Libr without error.
Great for many others back-up and sync.
Me happy, have a try.

Seems like a good sync utility, but it's crashed 3 times in the last 2 days. I'm not sure of the source, but am feeling a bit mixed about this.

I think this developer has ceased to support this software. I get no response to questions after months of attempts.

I had manually transferred files from an older laptop to a new one. Then a few days later I discovered that only 1/3 of my documents had actually made it through. In the meantime I had updated some documents in the new laptop. It was a mess.

I needed to repeat the transfer but I didn't want to overwrite the documents I had updated.

First I tried the program "compare folders". After running for 20-30 min it crashed. Then I tried Sync!Sync!Sync! and it performed beautifully. It was fast and it gave me a preview of what was missing from the new computer and what was new.

I was able to add the missing files without overwriting the updated ones in a few minutes. Thank you.
PS: Spend a minute to read the manual. It's just one page.

Sync3! is a jewel. IÕve been a Mac user for 20 years and since the
advent of OS X in 2000 finding elegant, well-executed, and thoughtful
software for the Mac has become a rare surprise. Sync3! is all those
things. After using it for 20 minutes I was in love. ItÕs obvious to
the user how to use it from the moment you open it (ALL software should
be like this, but MOST software is not), and itÕs quick and itÕs
extremely useful. It performs a function so basic and useful I am amazed
more people donÕt realize they need it. In the old days of the classic
Mac we had SymantecÕs CopyAgentÑ a great little utility which did
largely the same thing (i.e., copied only changed items, and on a
schedule). And it did it solidly and wellÑjust as Sync3! does it. This
program makes an ideal and robust backup program too. The author
obviuously appreciates the little touches and was writing something he
or she would want to use, because Sync3! is loaded with thoughtfulness.
Like the option to add an Applescript before and/or after running a
backup! What a lovely touch! The log is readable if you wish to read it.
AND EVERY BUTTON ACTUALLY WORKS! And when scheduled copies are due, they
actually happen! I am in heaven! I tried literally dozens of choices
from MacUpDateÕs website and every one until Sync3! was a giant
disappointment in some fundamental way. My only suggestion to the author
is that I would love to be able to sometimes run the schedule hours
apart instead of days apart. But I thoroughly love the software!

The idea for this program is great but it doesn't work properly. You tell it not to copy invisible files and it still does. Copy operations take multiple times longer than in the Finder. So it can be that the program runs for many hours and there is no indication what is going on, which file is being copied and how much of it has been copied. Perhaps what's worst is that the author is impossible to contact. Many attempts, no reply.

I just used the 4.3.1 version and I didn't find it slow at all. To the contrary. It took 2-3 minutes to compare 200,000 files.

I used " Update Copy (Selectional)" which gives you a preview on what has changed on BOTH drives and update in both directions (if desired).

Another program "Compare Folders" was running for 20-30 min doing the same comparison until it crashed.

I switched from PC to Mac a few months ago. On the PC I used a backup utility called SyncToy. I was going nuts trying to find something similar for the MAc, as it compares files between drive and backup drive and only moved what's necessary IN ADDITION to having options to copy left to right, right to left, synchronize or copy then delete, etc. This program does the job just the same and it's fast! Seriously easy to understand, I setup and backed up 3 huge folders in minutes.

Sync!Sync!Sync!LE helps you to make copies of your data by synchronizing two folders. It's very easy to set up, and once this is done, all you have to do is push a button. Of course, Sync!Sync!Sync! can also run automatically while you are away from home, or sleeping.

It's also AppleScript compatible, so you can make your own backup flow. There are some sample scripts in the package, so please try to find out what system works best for you.

Mac OS X 10.5 has an elegant backup system ("Time Machine") but if you want to use it, you have to prepare a huge empty HDD. If you don't have one, or you want to make backup through a network (like iDisk), Sync!Sync!Sync! is a better choice.
Features:
  1. Simplicity
It's very easy to set up a new back up, just choose an original folder and a backup folder. Then you can customize the backup by choosing appropriate backup style and detailed setting step by step.
  2. Scheduled Backup
Sync!Sync!Sync! can be run automatically by itself. User just needs to choose a day of week (or everyday) and time to run backup, then Sync!Sync!Sync! starts up and runs backup automatically on schedule. It's very easy to back up files to iDisk at midnight.
  3. Various Backup Target
Not only is it easy to set up a backup not only to external HDD or USB Flash Drive like iPod, but also it's available to back up to any device which can be mounted on Finder like network server, iDisk (webdav server), other Mac via Wifi or FTP server. (Please use MacFusion)
  4. Various Backup Style
Sync!Sync!Sync! provides various backup methods like "Add copy", "Synchronize copy", "Two-way copy" and so on. Sync!Sync!Sync! also provides various "Selectional" backup methods which allows user to check and choose files to be backed up or removed. About difference of those backup methods, please refer to the manual.
  5. Detailed Setting
It's possible to use more detailed setting. User can determine files not to be backed up with its file name, label, file size and so on to save the space of backup drive and shorten running time. It's available to stock the backed up file history (Leave older file for certain period).
  6. High Speed Backup
The backup process is very fast. The backup via network can be slower depends on the network speed, but the backup to external HDD will be done very quickly.
  7. AppleScript Support
Sync!Sync!Sync! runs designated AppleScript before/after backup. For example, it's possible to mount iDisk or network server with AppleScript before backup and unmount the volume and send result via EMail after backup. The Sync!Sync!Sync! package contains various sample script like mounting iDisk or sending Email, please refer to those script. Sync!Sync!Sync! itself also supports AppleScript so it's available to run backup with AppleScript.
