Import a CD into iTunes using Lame 3.97.

Overview

iLAS is a very simple application that allows you to import a CD or encode a playlist in iTunes using Lame 3.97. It doesnÕt sparkle and it wonÕt make you go oooohhhh or aaaahhhh but it will do the one thing it is designed to do. If you like using Lame, and iTunes, then you're sure gonna want to download this.

What's new in iLAS

Version 1.0b:
  • there shouldn't be anymore of the "jlink" business
  • you can make up whatever crazy genre you'd like, iLAS doesn't care
Known Bad News: things won't work right if you don't have "Copy files to iTunes music folder..." checked off. But that isn't so bad and is next of the list.

Doesn't work with Tiger.. I have emailed the author over a week ago, and again just now, as I Ihave not recieved any answer yet. Is this program still being supported? Now that I have upgraded to Tiger, I can no longer import icons.. Everytime I try, the program acts as if it is importing them, but them freezes after the "Importing Icons" dialog box says that there are "0" items remaining to import. Is this going to be fixed? Is there a workaround? If there isn't, don't waste your money if you're running Tiger. It was great in Panther, but is useless now.

IcoBox still works on SnowLeopard, it's a bit slow but no glitch. The developer's site (www.chickenbyte.com) is "pending renewal or deletion" as of May 05/12/2010.

I can't customize the options, what's wrong? Is it planned to start multiple lame threads to support dual cpu?

It installed but will not work. I had the Import with LAME script installed and now it doesn't work either. When trying to launch the application it says it will not open because the application may be damaged or incomplete.

not working for me either. when i start it up i get: AppleScript Error Finder got an error: The operation could not be completed because there is already an item with that name. (-48) although i don't think it said that the first time i started it up. and when i hit encode: AppleScript Error Can't init outfile '/Users/jlink/Library/Caches/iLas/One Way Mirror.mp3' (255) there's no user called jlink on this computer.

I like the idea, but it did not work for me. I could unpack the archive with some problems, it did install, however, the script was on the wrong place (under Applications) and the encoding process returned an error. Maybe next time.

the updated, fixed version is on the developer's site now (10/20/05), and it works perfectly with 10.4.2. note that the version number still appears 1.5, but it is a fixed version.

I wasted my money on IconBox, as they have not kept up with changes to Tiger. It has been many months since they emailed me they would correct it soon, but nothing has happened.

I am frustrated that the developers have not fixed the bug with Tiger. I emailed them about it in June, and they wrote back that they hoped to have it fixed within a week. I bought the license code not too long before I upgraded to Tiger so it was a waste of money for me.

I'm on OS 10.3.9. IconBox 1.5 is locking up whenever a Name/License code is entered, regardless of what is entered (For instance, if you just type "lksdfj" in both boxes, which should be rejected outright as the wrong format, it still locks up)

It is an ok program. It's shareware features aren't technically as good as Pixadez. I don't know why people would sell what is in effect a database of personel icons. It should be freeware!

This app is NOT discontinued---whoever wrote that below me obviously didn't go to the developer's web site, because IconBox is still for download, still for sale, still being supported, and still very much alive and well. I've been using it for a couple of years now and never had a problem. Combined with CandyBar, this is a great, quick program for changing your GUI and customizing your Mac.

Well, I guess this app is now discontinued and no longer under production. What a sad thing. :'(

hands down the best icon organizer! i actually bought pixadex and it is sooo slow, hogs all of your resources and crashes frequently. i'm not happy about having to buy another app to do the same thing but pixadex is simply unusable. oh well, at least i know this works.... good job. bv.

I have to retract the complaint below because the developer has offered great support, in fact. Looks like the emails I sent just disappeared into my own server (maybe during the virus scares of last fall). Iconbox is once again a fine application and the customer support couldn't be better---all through the weekend and late into the night. Five stars all around. ( :

Well, I bought this app because it cost less than Pixadex, but now that I've upgraded to Panther all of a sudden IconBox just crashes upon opening. And I have written to the developers three times over a month and they have NEVER replied.

IconBox has been a wonderful application. With ease I am able to manage thousands of icons placed in over two hundred libraries. I have yet to experience a problem importing, exporting, or sorting my icons with IconBox. The few suggestions and questions I had, the developers answered thoroughly within 24hrs. They are very interested in improving their application, and they continue to be highly responsive and helpful. I am very happy I purchased IconBox.

Tracy Valleau: but it will, as soon as I find the time for it (and will always remain free) ;o) I give a 4 in features because they have some features my users suggested to me (so I want them too :o), and 3 in ease of use because I don't like dialogs when I want to paste an Icon on a file :o) (and some other things like proprietary ".ibox" drag-and-drop export). As for value, I made Asticones free because I don't want to pay for that kind of software, so... But I understand that people may want to pay for it... when it is a bit more mature (or now, to encourage maturity). The stability I could not judge in the demo. What I really don't like about IconBox is how it is affiliated with Xicons, who didn't even reply to me 3 months ago when I suggested they could reference Asticones on their "software" page. But that's just frustration ;o) PS: please don't take me too seriously, I just thought it would be fun to review IconBox, because if it had existed 6 months ago I may not have made Asticones at all :o)

Nice app, good way to manage icons, nice additional options such as keywords and descriptions for icons. Unfortunately, the program suffers from being very slow. A library with 900+ icons stutters on scrolling (tiBook 1ghz).

nice interface but needs to be fully functioning, unlimited 15 day trial period or similar to really see if it works well. went to the trash until then. i would import one folder of icons and then try another and it would erase the first set(?)

$12.95?? Are they *insane*? I mean, $5 or $6 maybe ... MAYBE ... but $13? This is going to have to a) mature greatly or b) be on par with iPhoto in terms of sophistication before I'd even *consider* that price. Dev needs a reality check BAD.
