Lorenz Attractor Screensaver is a mezmerizing screensaver based on the Lorenz Attractor. I originally created it for a friend. I've been tweaking it for many years and I've finally reached a place where I feel comfortable sharing it with the world.

Lots of features that I haven't yet got around to implementing. If there is a bug or something else you'd like it to do, let me know.

P.S. It's way cooler in person than what the screenshot shows.
Requirements
  • PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.2 or later (untested on 10.4 and 10.1)

I remember this saver from many years back on my G4 laptop till it died. Like coming across an old friend. I'm an Intel boy know, so keep us posted on the update.

Hell man, I'm still using a G4 CUBE, it's approaching 7 years and going strong. I do appreciate your comments and will update the screensaver to have preferences and be a universal binary for you intel folks out there.

Sorry guys, I'm still running 10.3, so can't install xcode 2.4 so I can make universal binaries. One of these days Ill get around to upgrading :)

One button in Xcode, but maybe the dev does not own an Intel Mac (yet).

You don't need an Intel Mac to build universal binaries. They can be cross-compiled on either Intel or PPC.

Works ok on my Powerbook running OS 10.4.9.
Rather simple but pleasant effect, however, needs more complexity. The colored swirls are not vivid enough, the colors need to be more saturated I think; they don't really stand out from the dark background as well as they could.
Might want to consider offering a choice of user configured settings.
I'd like to see more variation in the size and action of the particles, more depth/scope to their dynamism.

Good idea, but there's not much point in releasing a PPC-only screensaver these days; it won't work on Intel Macs. How about a universal binary?

Doesn't seem to work on an mbp running 10.4.9
