I paid for and installed CosmoPod in May 2009 and it worked for a few months. I upgraded to SL in September and CosmoPod would not work with standard 64-bit Safari. Now this guy wants more cash for a program that should have been SL compatible when I bought it 4 months before.. I don't know what agenda he is running here but unless he gets his pricing sorted out, reviews like this are gonna finish his development on the Mac platform! This guy will not be getting any more cash from me until he can prove that he's not gonna bill me every 4 months to get his software to work! CosmoPod is getting removed from my Mac as of NOW!

The developer has abandoned their paying customers. They could have, at least, contact registered owners and said, "Sorry suckers, but we're done with you - adios!" They have not updated their product in a long. long time. It is so out of date that it is a joke. No customer support - no response to emails. Nothing has changed on their web site in a year or more. Try Wondershare's "AllMyTube" is a great product and they provide excellent customer support. It does everything and more than CosmoPod did.

So, it would seem this has definitely been abandoned now. It hasn't worked in over a year and the developer in incommunicado. I just hope they are okay. As far as a replacement for this goes, I have tried several. iTubeX is good, but it does have to boot another app, so it's not the most streamlined option. For Safari users, I would HIGHLY recommend the Youtube5 Safari extension: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35606/youtube5-safari-extension It basically converts all video content (such as Youtube videos, which run with Flash) into HTML5 content. It does so instantly and automatically, and results in faster loading videos and less CPU usage in playing them. It's fantastic. What's more, you can easily download the videos by clicking on the [i] in the top right corner of a video, where it shows you a list of sizes and formats the video is available in. Just right click on your preferred size/format and choose "Download Linked File". It's so elegant. Just a 21k file. A little Safari extension. No mess, no extra apps, not even a button to clutter up your tool bar. What's more, it's free!

This app destroyed my Safari browser. It somehow deleted my entire Toolbar, so I can't even hit Command-L to open web sites anymore. I followed the developer's uninstall instructions, but even then my Safari Toolbar did not come back. Beware this software -- it will actually harm your computer! The developers are extremely irresponsible to even be distributing it in its current state.

CocoaMug Software has cut it's throat! I encourage all of you who have paid for this (formerly) great Safari Add-on to spread the news to EVERYONE you possibly can to steer clear of any offering form CocoaMug. For them to completely ignore their paying customers is untenable. Therefore they should only reap what they themselves have sown!

Developer, you're really starting to piss off your paying user base, including me. If the updating or personal problems you're facing are too great to overcome, or if you do expect to overcome them but just need more time, stop being purposely negligent and at least TELL US — WE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHETHER WE SHOULD CONTINUE WAITING FOR A FUNCTIONAL UPDATE OR FIND A REPLACEMENT.

I love this product as well, it's smart, powerful and easy to use. It is a shame that the developer seems to be having problem getting an update out. I even had to de-install the latest Safari (I am still on Snow Leopard) just to have this at my disposal. However, not that there could be security leaks I need to move on. Too bad, so sad. I'd be happy to lay out a small upgrade fee. I'll bet most of us would. Best Wishes to the DEV_We're pulling for you! •)+ Choosing 5 Stars to offset the stupi-heads in here that insist on punishing hard working (struggling artist) developers.

Abandonware. Anyone who thinks this is being worked on should check the developer's website and look at the "coming soon" updates for iPhone OS 3 software that broke with the change to iOS 4, along with the other software that broke with Safari 5.1 Click2Plugin, Flash Cache Saver, and Handbrake have replaced this for me. Less convenient, but they work and they're free.

OK, I use to love this product. I used it all the time. 5 stars, before now. But the developer's lack of response to continued and repeated inquiries concerning the Safari 5.1 issue has made it extremely hard to support them. Why not a single response? Why is it still being advertised and sold? MacUpdate should discontinue advertising the product until we get some kind of response.

Very good plugin. More reliable (=much more successes to hijack the Flash-Movies) and smoother than Videobox or iTubeX. But due of the integration via SIMBL, CosmoPod injects code inside Safari even if its sleeping. As a result, with CosmoPod the SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark (Version 0.9.1) runs approx. 10% slower than without (arithmetically averaged out of 10 rounds). This should be fixed quickly. TapExpose from the same developer does use SIMBL as well without such a bad habit. Until then I cannot give more than 3 stars.

I have looked at the custom toolbar many times. It is not there and it is not in the Window menu either. Strangely enough if I install once again, it indicates it is going to update, so it must be in there somewhere, but a search of my computer does not find it. Here is what I have done to try to fix it. 1. Repaired permissions. 2. Run TechTool Pro. 3. Run Disk Warrior. 4. Emptied caches. 5. Started in Safe Boot and installed from there. Nothing has worked. I think I will ask for my money back. R.

Working fine for me with Safari 5. Thanks for the rapid update! My guess is that if people are having trouble with crashes, they may wish to consider that there is a conflict with another plugin. I recently discovered (apparently) with this new version that the installer does not contain all the required parts to complete the installation and actually takes you to a third-party site (box.net) to download and install "additional binaries." I e-mailed the developer and, while I did get an answer, it was not a satisfactory answer as to why this method was chosen and particularly why it is not disclosed. I sent a number of follow-up messages asking for a reply and have heard nothing since May 11. imo, it is unacceptable for a developer to create an installer that fails to clearly inform the user that this is what their installer does and to provide a credible reason why it would be necessary. The reason I was given was that it reduced the initial CosmoPod size and would speed up the upgrade. This is smoke and mirrors. While it may appear that the CosmoPod installer is small the user still has to download whatever the binaries are. The developer needs to be open and clear about this installer and what the mysterious binaries are. After being a fan and registered user of CosmoPod I have removed the old version from my system and will not use any of their software unless and until they are much more honest and clear about this. ymmv

I have appreciated this extension for a long time. However it (V 4.3.1 as of this writing) no longer seems to work correctly with YouTube videos. When a YouTube video is played, there is often an option towards the lower right of the player window to select 360,, 480p, or HD resolution. This option is no longer presented unless I use some page reload workarounds which I won't bore you with here. The video shown is unlabeled as to resolution, and turns out to be 360p and usually Flash, which is the default lowest quality offered by YouTube. I think the developer has been working this, but no joy now for awhile.

Neat add-on to Safari for capturing and re-encoding YouTube and other Flash player provided video. Has a decent interface and operated nicely until … l ately when it was slowing down Safari to a crawl when launching Safari. Worse, it would crash Safari almost daily as reported by Crash Reporter. Safari would launch slowly, stalling on the button bar build and then burp the Cosmopod button up on the button bar and the rest of Safari would come to life. Safari would constantly slow and provide a spinning beach ball. I tried to update the SIMBL library that it relies upon to append it's functionality to Safari. That did help but did not solve the issue. Finally I uninstalled CosmoPod and uninstalled SIMBL. That did the trick. Safari fires up fast, reacts fast, and no beachball. For reference I also have WebSnapper installed during this and have since switched to VideoBox to replace CosmoPod. There could have been some contention with CosmoPod+SIMBL and WebSnapper + SpiceRack. Not sure. WebSnapper is such a killer add-on to Safari that CosmoPod cannot compete with the WebSnapper + VideoBox duo.

I'm experiencing a problem with Cosmopod and 10.5.8. Certainly not a big deal in the whole scheme of things, but annoying in that it conflicts with years of learned behavior. The problem is that with Cosmopod installed, (paid and registered) when you hit the Safari icon in the dock or elsewhere, (with Safari already running but windows closed) a new window does not pop up, contrary to normal behavior. Uninstalling Cosmopod fixes the problem. Unless I'm missing some setting or something, I assume this is a bug easily fixed, and that the next revision will address it. Otherwise, I love the application, as it makes it pathetically easy to download and convert video.

It does work. However.... On Youtube, if you do selecet MP4 conversion, It downloads multiple instances of the same video. It will only convert one of the downloads (and cancel the other ones... the files scrap are still shown in the download folder though ). The DOWN point is that conversion for a 1 hour video takes more than 10 hr on my Mac 2.4 core duo.

Does anyone know how to uninstall CosmoPod? It keeps bugging me to upgrade, even though I never purchased it after trying the demo, and I'd like to uninstall it but can't for the life of me figure out how... Thanks!

CosmoPod is the most useful utility for the money of all the web related video utilities I have. If you are a Safari user and like to view some video content offline, this Application Enhancer makes is a one click solution. The developer stays right on top of Safari updates and I have never had a hang or other glitch involving CosmoPod. There is an "equivalent" free plug-in for Firefox, FlashGot. It is frustrating for me in that is wants to download each and every flash animation on a given web page and preserves the often bewildering names. In my view it not as useful as CosmoPod.

Although I am a recent convert to CosmoPod I have been very impressed and bought a license immediately. The cost of a license right now is too good to pass this by. Smooth, fast, and seamless to both download and convert virtually any video. The ability to edit metadata is a powerful addition. Works perfectly under the recent release of Safari 4 Beta for me. Well done.

I have been using Cosmopod since its birth and I have never found better than this. Though, there is a feature that drives me nuts and I didn't find any thing that could help me. Each time the file is converted, it generates "cosmopod" at the end of the file name and I don't want that. IE: What hurts the most from a dog's Eyes-CosmoPod.mp4 I tried to get rid of it with the preferences but so far, couldn't make it. I have to erase manually one file at a time that generated name. Anyone knows how to get rid of it automatically?

I have used CosmoPod for ages, and would hate to be without it now, but ever since updating to 2.5, the format conversion has stopped working. The MPEG-4 file produced is damaged and cannot be played by any application, and when inspected, appears to be 0kb in size. At the moment I'm having to convert the downloaded flv file using iSquint. This is the case for every video I've downloaded since 2.5, from several different websites.

I have owned CosmoPod for quite a while, and I must say with complete confidence... If you want the best video downloader, buy CosmoPod. I have tried almost everything available, and CosmoPod simply works best in every category. It's fast, the interface is easy to use, the software installs quickly and the developer stands behind the product second to none.

Version 2.3 fixes the Safari crash on startup. I want to thank the developer for fixing this problem so quickly. CosmoPod is one "slick" program. I highly recommend CosmoPod.

Sorry for the double post, but I just installed this 2.2 update. Now Safari crashes on startup, so I had to completely uninstall Cosmopod. The report says: PID: 259 Thread: Unknown Link (dyld) error: Symbol not found: _method_setImplementation Referenced from: /Library/InputManagers/CosmoPod/CosmoPod.bundle/Contents/MacOS/CosmoPod Expected in: dynamic lookup Anyone able to decipher that? Anyway, get SafariStand to download your flv files (or use the Activity window for other file types) and convert them with iSquint. Both are free and they WORK!

I definitely agree with AIKOUSHA's "one-trick-pony" comment. I bought this thing because it seemed to work well, and it did... at first. Now the "Number of downloads" prefs won't change, it doesn't always add things to iTunes (yes the option is selected) and it occasionally tries to download a wmv file which isn't actually there. Sometimes when I try to download something from YouTube it will download the flv AND some fictional wmv file with a huge name which includes what appears to be webpage display parameters... I think. Safari's Activity window shows no such file, so I have no idea what CosmoPod is mistaking for a wmv file. Then when it tries to download this phantom file, Safari slows and freezes, as does everything else running. I actially had to turn off the power to restart my Mac! Oh, and iSquint makes better quality files as well. Waste of money, even if it is cheap.

Downloaded and tested this a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to work perfectly. However, I found something today that I really wanted to get and view (without loss of video and stuttering) and it just wouldn't work. It recognized the video, but when I clicked the button to save it, nothing happened (the dialogue box disappeared, but no file was saved or even opened). Further attempts to save it came up with a dialogue stating that it had already been saved, and did I want to resave, cancel, or reload the page. Save didn't do anything, and reloading did reload the page, but did not allow me to save the video once it finally was quied up again. This literally turned into a "one-trick pony" and is now completely useless. this should be a built in feature of Safari...

Excellent addition to Safari! I hated using Firefox just to download videos. I have one question, though: how do you access the preferences? I was able to access them only once and now I'd like to change them. Also, can the prefs be accessed without hitting the download button?

Freeing myself from the limitations of Flash and Real Player this easily: It's a beautiful thing! It even works on local files. Just go to the Safari Menu-->Window-->CosmoPod. The CosmoPod window opens and you can drag your local Flash and Realplayer clunkers onto it and make perfect mp4's.

Does anyone know if this software conflicts with PithHelmet? After installing CosmoPod with PithHelmet already installed, Safari locked up and gave me an error saying it couldn't read the PithHelmet plug-in. It did this every time I opened it, so I decided to uninstall both CosmoPod and PithHelmet. Unfortunately, now Safari won't open at all, even after restarting my computer.

CosmoPod is one of a kind. The fact it is compatible with so many websites is just amazing. I used a lot of similar software before I tried this one and to me this is the real thing : amazing video quality, one click to iPod video conversion. CosmoPod is the mac-like way to get stuff from the web on my iPod.
