Connect Airfoil to different applications.

Overview

Airfoil Source Selector is a small application that makes it even easier to connect Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil v2 to different applications:

  • Line In
  • Camino
  • Firefox
  • iTunes
  • QuickTime Player
  • RealPlayer
  • Safari.

Click the application's icon in Airfoil Source Selector to get Airfoil to hijack the audio. Click on the Airfoil Source Selector icon in the window to connect/disconnect the speakers to Airfoil. Note: the audio source applications (e.g. Firefox) need to be installed in your /Applications folder.

If a sound source application cannot be found when Airfoil Source Selector launches, the related icon will be disabled.

As an application, I don't see how this is any simpler than the pull-down menu Airfoil provides. But, rebuild this as a widget, and you will have provided a feature that Airfoil has actually said in their forums that they will NEVER provide.

I wrote this app quite a while ago (May '06)and didn't publish it to any listings sites: it was just a small thing I was playing with. At the time, Airfoil didn't have the same features and then the current source had to be disconnected and then the new one selected. I discussed the features that this app has with Rogue Amoeba and they were in the process of adding the silent disconnect/connect which then allows the desired app to be hijacked with less clicks and without the wait for the disconnection. Still it helps me, and I prefer to use the buttons and not navigate the Airfoil list. I would like it if Airfoil actually added these audio source buttons to its interface, but for the moment this is my only option. I'm not current with the views of users on Rogue Amoeba's forums.
