JIRA Client overview

Note: Jira Client has reached its End of Life, which means there is no further development of the product, and the support for it is limited.

Jira Client is a desktop application for day-to-day work with Jira issues. It helps you quickly navigate and drill down into issues, schedule tasks and triage problems with drag-and-drop, accurately track time, work when you are offline.

Overall, Jira Client is a great help and time-saver for Project Managers, Consultants, QA, Help Desk — people who work with Jira extensively throughout the day.

I just wanted to put in my opinion as to me it's a no brainer, IMHO the cost is insignificant compared to the amount of frustration and time wasted on the JIRA web front end. I purchased this software for windows originally but then found it so useful I now have it on my mac as well. Yes JIRA is a web front end and of course you can use it without this, and most users are permanently online, but to me there is a huge difference between working in realtime on a desktop app and working at click wait, hotkey, type, click wait wait speed using the web front. If you're getting impatient with JIRA then I strongly recommend giving it a go.

I'm confused as to the need for this app as JIRA users are generally always connected to the net and both interfaces (web and this client) are totally different.

I am a frequent JIRA user, and about the only value I can see in this package is the ability to use JIRA offline. That said, I suspect that most folks who use JIRA on a regular basis would be connected to the net anyway. Based on this, I don't think $65.00 is a reasonable price for this ability. Also, unlike JIRA, the interface for JIRA Client is very cluttered, and reminiscent of a Windows application. Still, I applaud the developer for creating a Mac OS X JIRA client. I hope that in the future, they will consider lowering the price and making a Mac-like interface.
