What is Google Sitemaps?
Google Sitemaps is a program designed to help improve your coverage in Google search results, and allows you to communicate directly with Google to keep them informed of where your Web pages are, and when changes are made to these pages. Map-IT Sitemapper takes all the work out of creating a Google Sitemap. Just enter your Website address and point to your website files, and the Sitemap is created and ready to upload.
How does it work?
Search engines such as Google discover information about your site by employing software known as "spiders" to crawl the web. Once the spiders find a site, they follow links within the site to gather information about all the pages. The spiders periodically revisit sites to find new or changed content.
By using Sitemaps to inform and direct their crawlers, Google hopes to expand their coverage of the Web and speed up the discovery and addition of pages to their index.
By placing a Google Sitemap-formatted file on your Web server, you enable Google crawlers to find out what pages are present and which have recently changed, and to crawl your site accordingly.
