I'm rather disappointed about this software. At first the usability is strange. It seems it's been written without respect to Apple's guidelines. But what's even worse: it crashes and complains about several issues in some tested HTML documents, that are non existent. For example it says the body tag is unknown, although it's coded correctly and not uppercase. Clicking on the given line numbers gets me anywhere but not to the corresponding lines. (The W3C online validation service gives no errors at all there.) Maybe i'm missing something there. So the rating is for the usability and the GUI.

I found the cause of the problems with non-existent errors like the body tag being considered unknown. It happens when the path to the application Resources folder cannot be resolved. For example, if you have a German version of Mac OS X and many non-Ascii characters in the path. It will be corrected on next release of RightWebPage.

Thanks to the developer. Great support. The invalid tag bug has been fixed within two days!

BTW: I have to agree - there are a some major software companies ignoring these design guidelines for years now. But they soon will vanish into the cloud...

This software is excellent and some of its test metrics are unique.

Some of the IEEE/ISO tests that it supports are not covered by any other app or service.

I have discovered that versions 4.7 & 4.8 can also run on Mac OS X 10.6.8 but you first have to manually unpack the app with a tool such as UnPkg , Payload Extractor or Pacifist.

My first two comments from before have been fixed, remembering the userid/password for protected pages and the limited recursion for off site pages, but in 2.6 now, I get a lot of crashes (and reports to Apple). Also interface is not very intuitive.

Thanks for your feedback. It would be nice if you send the crash reports to luis.d.silva@ieee.org

If you are experiencing problems with version 2.6, go to your user's Library folder and find all files that have OpenValidator in the name. Then move them all to trash.

1. Doesn't remember userid/password for password protected parts of site.
2. When enabling recursion, should it really go deep into other sites, ie non-owned but referred to sites? Maybe when you go offsite it should stop at level one.
3. Doesn't like to be stopped or quit when running. Had to "force quit".

Instant crash upon launch. Reverted back to previous version 0.12.1 and that functioned just fine.

Mac Mini 2009, Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I tried it on a Dual G5 PPC checking a couple of pages on a local host (PHP generated HTML) - no problems at all - but a couple of very interesting errors/warnings I‘ve never seen before - and the App is right; my code was not correct.
My first impression: A useful and needed tool for a web-developer.

I'd just like to put in a good word for this software, which I've experimented with (light occasional use) since about version 0.6.

While the app seems to be coded in a nonstandard way (RealBasic?), and in spots its interface could be clearer, it's by far the strictest all-in-one HTML verifier/validator I've yet found for Mac -- sweating tiny details other validators don't even notice, and generating clear reports. It could prove very helpful to anyone interested in improving web page accessibility.

I've noticed all Intel versions of RWP I've tried have performed solidly; however I've been unable to get PPC versions to run since 0.7 or so. That said, though, I'd like only to encourage the developer, since this FREE software aims at a noble goal (to further democratize the web experience for all by improving accessibility). Thank you.

Tried it on my PPC Quad G5 with 10.5.6. All it does it crash. Went to their site, and tried to join the forum, but there is no place to register to join it.
