Disco

1.0.3
02 March 2008

Burn CD/DVD media with virtual 3D smoke effects.

Overview

Disco is workflow based disc burning software made for the Mac.

Tackle all of your standard burning tasks along with other utilities like Discography, Spandex, and full session support. One fun features about Disco is that it emits 3D interactive smoke in real time as you burn your media. It also automatically detects files that are too big to fit on your media, and allows you to place them on additional discs.

This app is the highest of high example of the delicious generation of apps that came about a few years ago. It seemed like everyone just wanted apps to be pretty. Features? Nah, jus' give prettyyy... This app should be at a museum;-)

The pinnacle of the Delicious Generation ™. Cult app … In a bad way, like E.T. on Atari 2600.

Works flawlessly on Yosemite (last edition). Will probably on El Capitan too. If you use this be sure to plug in your burner first - otherwise Disco will crash. This can span large amounts of stuff across multiple CDs or DVS and I think no other app can do this. cubanpete gives absolute stellar maximum of 6 stars ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪

Great, beautiful software with really nice "burning documents" animation (which can also be switched off). You can dispell the smoke by blowing! "You can even blow into your microphone and the smoke will react accordingly. " Best thing is that disco can span disks. So if you have lots of stuff to burn that will not fit on a single disk, disco will do all the calculations for you to properly fill the disks to the brim. "If Disco detects the total size of the files you're burning is bigger than the disc, it will try to divide them amongst multiple discs so that they fit. " It can also keep a record of the contents of your burned disks. Wow. "You can instantly search through tens of thousands of burned files and find out info such as when it was burned, to what disc it was burned, and when it was last edited. " I'm glad this still works as of Aug 2015 on ML 10.8.5. It's such a timesaver and it never ruined a disk. However, it can crash. If it won't start at all, delete it with App Cleaner, then reinstall. If it still won't start, run a different burning app, then run disco. That helped me. It's fine now. Wish the developer would release this so disco won't die! It's too good to die. Please... But thanks for making it free.

I love and have used Disco for year. Now I am very sad they are not continuing to develop this app. They are now offering a free username and password on their website. I am using the app under Snow Leopard and occasionally it will crash. I wish the developer would release the source code so that the mac community can continue to update the app. I cannot find anything that even comes close to it except for Toast. And that takes a huge step away from the simplicity. And I am not quite ready to dish out the cash for Toast.

Just found this official note on developers website: "As of July 2011 development and support of Disco have been officially discontinued. Disco will remain downloadable by any one who wishes to use it." They also made available free license there, but it seems this license does not work (at least it was so in my case).

So is this officially abandonware? I really hope that they do an upgrade to this app as, despite the more recent comments it does indeed work pretty well. It is not a replacement for toast but it is still a useful burning app. So how about it, Austin, are you going to update this app like you said you were all those years ago when this version was released?

Don't waste your time or money on this. It hasn't been updated in ages and all of the hype by the developers has gone unfulfilled.

I purchased Disco as part of a MacUpdate promo bundle. Unfortunately, after testing it for several days I can honestly say: DISCO SUCKS! The main problem with Disco is that it just doesn't work. I have attempted to burn 6 DVD+R DL discs with it - something I've had no trouble doing with, say, Disk Utility, Toast, etc. - and only one of them burned successfully. The rest of them failed with the completely useless message "Coaster Created." Thanks a lot, Disco! I'd recommend just throwing your blank DVDs into the trash directly rather than waiting 40 minutes to have Disco tell you "Coaster Created." Don't bother with this app until the developers get their act together and deliver something which actually works.

Disco has never been in a MacUpdate bundle. It must be another bundle.
