Xtorrent

XTorrent was for a very long time the most beautiful BitTorrent / P2P file sharing client. Although not available for download anymore, XTorrent's interface is top notch even by the standards of today - vastly better than Vuze's, uTorrent's, BitTorrent's, and even Transmission's. Beautiful times those were… I remember buying a license many years ago; I don't recall particulars anymore, but I recall clearly that David Watanabe duped all his customers, myself included, into some sort of a financial scam. If I recall correctly, he either refused to provide the license data to customers for them to activate the software, asked payments for incremental updates - or something else along those lines. Any any case, while his software was the best within its kind, the man's ethical norms as a developer were a total junk.

$ 25 for an app, of which there are equally good in freeware. The support is sickening. You get no response.

I've been using xTorrent for years and slowly watched all the torrent servers ban it. Now, when you use xTorrent to search, hardly anything gets found. Developer has never been very likeable either!

I keep on reading all these negative comments and everyone recommending Transmission. I've been using Xtorrent for quite a few years now. What I love about it, is that I can use it to search for torrents, download directly or use the build-in torrent search. It still works for me, I love how it looks ( I have Lion). I did try Transmission, but it took me over 30 minutes to get it to work because I had to open up some kind of port. Xtorrent just always worked. I can leave my browser open and use Xtorrent to look for torrents. I've been using it a lot this past month and so far, so good. I don't get all the hate, but maybe I've just been lucky, or not expecting things other people seem to expect. Though I can't really figure out what those expectations might be.

This used to be a great app. But it has been banned from like 90% of the trackers. So it does not, and will never worked again. The developers used to be totally on top of things. But he has just become a scam artist. Save you money. Get Transmission.

I paid $25 for the Pro upgrade and since then not ONE thing has downloaded. There also appears to be no way to contact the guy I paid the $25 to. My Mac has the correct software and the ISP speed is fine. Save your money, there are much better free apps.

I just recently purchased Xtorrent Pro, when I want to search for a movie or music I just don't get any results. It's like it can't find anything, I tried popular searches like Top Gear, Harry Potter, Kanye West, Nirvana, ... etc but nothing. Could this have something to do with the fact that I live and work in China and therefore Xtorrent might be 'controlled' or 'blocked' by chinese watchdog? anyone else using Xtorrent Pro while in China? also experiencing similar problems? hope someone can help me out cause it really sucks that I can't download anything

Pay $25 for torrent client - that is absurd ... Think about it ...

Ex user (v1), trailed v2, still just as buggy, and support requests go unanswered. Don't bother - use one of the free Torrent clients instead.

Nice to see it improved in Lion. Imho this and uTorrent are the best torrent client ever. I agree that developer probably don't take the right time to reply to mails, but the app itself is amazing imho.

Hi, i have a mac os 10.5.8 , i just upgrade my xtorrent app and i cant anymore open the app , they said that my version of mac os doesn't work with the version of xtorrent. Please help me !!! thanks

Like most of the commenters here, I have nothing good to say about the developer. He's the same person that continues to sell his other torrent app Acquisition, even though it became unusable a long time ago (all results are just spam). For any developers reading this,, for me, the killer feature that Xtorrent offered (before it stopped working for me under Lion) was built-in, easy torrent search. If anyone knows of a torrent client that does this, pls let me know.

Xtorrent developer is a scammer,i bought 2 licences for 2 macs and i receive all the time a button on the right side to "upgrade to pro" and i have to reenter the licence over and over again. I contacted him and he responded once in 1 year,he doesn't even answer to my e-mails,he is a scammer....

The only things you need have a "Must Have"-Status. 1. is uTorrent (it's stable, fast, free and easy to use for everyone) - 2. Transmission (it's stable, fast, free and easy to use for everyone) Years ago I've tested xTorrent for some weeks. It's not faster than other free products, rather more slowly, so my impression. I was interested in this app later and willing to pay for. But I don't have paypal, so I asked him (via email) for other payment methods. NO reply. Try it again. NO reply. Tried not again, NO thank you. The support is very much in need of improvement. Save your money.

Simple, uncluttered app that does exactly what I need. Worth the $25 for the additional download speed it offers.

since upgrading to lion my original serial does not work any more. I re-requested serial from developers web site but still not luck with it. I emailed developer 3 times but no response, I post friendly question on facebook but they got deleted. customer service is non existant rather stay away I say

Can't believe someone is trying to commercialise torrent apps when there is so many out there for free. Of course there is the rub they had a good long look at all the open source no doubt so that would have made it easier to code.

Why pay for this when there are better "free" open source applications. In addition Dave Wannabee appears to lose emails sent to him for help/explanation.

Have used Xtorrent for a long while now and have had no issues with it. I dont need loads of features and after trying most of the alternatives Xtorrent works for me.
