I had another go with this, but frankly it's still disappointing. It's so nearly a great app, but STILL no menubar integration, and it doesn't even support javascript, let only Ruby, ASP etc. Having to position the app window on top of the app you want place a snippet into and drag and drop is clunky and annoying. I look forward to future developments, but for the moment I'll stick with iSnip (it's free and does the job better). All the bells and whistles in the world mean little if the basic functionality is incomplete.

In the end I went with iSnip, which is perfect for my needs (snippets of web development code, ordered by language, which I can drop into whatever editor I'm using with a single click from a dropdown menu in the OSX menu bar). However I've noticed there's an update to Code Collector, so I'm going to check it out again. The two apps you mentioned are really abbreviation expanders and unsuitable for my requirement, but cheers for reply.

It's pretty cool. What I think it could do with is OS menu bar integration and the ability to drop snippets into the uppermost app., then it would be awesome.

The new update of Code Collector is GREAT. And now the option to have a "PRO" version OUTSTANDING. CC Pro takes organizing my code snippets to the next level with Smart Groups. And the addition of Syntax Highlighting is fantastic. I've been using this app from the start and never had an issue with it. Great update! Looking forward to what the future holds.

I tried this. The code I stored in it disappeared. It is no longer there when I select its title.

I'd like to take the opportunity also (no offense to the developer of Code Collector, but this is a consumer oriented site after all), that there is a very nice alternative ditto app, called iSnip ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/17045 ). Although not being updated for a while now, iSnip sports the ability to categorize your code snippets. And on top of that, it also doubles as a multiple clipboard items memory, and you can invoke it with a keyboard shortcut if you like. As long as Code Collector doesn't have the ability to sort snippets into categories - which is very convenient when you, for instance, want to separate a lot of snippets into different programming languages - I prefer iSnip.

For a free program, and a new, free program, this is a nice program. But - again, since it's hopefully not quite finished yet - I will wait with a review score. Here are some suggestions that would be great to see: - Cathegory folders... (this added feature, alone, would make it a real killer app!) - A 'go to URL' button, next to the Source field, for easy access to the information source of those snippets that you've collected from diverse forums and somesuch. - A 'dragging handle' to be able to resize the Entry list window (i.e. the same type of handle that is already between Description and Code windows). - Maybe a toolbar button for the 'Edit in TextMate' feature would be nice also. Except for these humble wishes, for some refining touches of the interface, I'm super happy with the product so far! I'm quite sure that people have already began flocking round this app and I'm definitely adding it in my Watch List on MacUpdate. I'm waiting with my rating for now. Thanks!

From what I can see Code Collector appears very buggy, especially in regards to cutting and pasting into code source window. I had to paste code in twice before it shows up and the two paste have blank lines where the position of the second is overlaps the end of the first by about 2 lines depite being pasted end-to-head like when you issue two consecutive cmd-V's. This might have to do with the latest system 10.4.7 or using the new iMac dual core 2.

This is brilliant. As a coder I need to build up a code snippets library for certain tricks/techniques etc that I have had to do in certain situation, but rather than sifting through my source on previous apps trying to find them when I write a new one, I can keep the in this app which saves a lot of time and keeps it all organised. Very big thanks to the author for releasing this. Nice, simple, straightforward, uncluttered and (above all) does what it is supposed to.
