Legion Arena

1.1.1
31 October 2007

Large-scale role playing strategy game.

Overview

Legion Arena was designed to maximize fun and reduce micro-management. The player can jump right in and start training legions to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. With a shallow learning-curve and deep strategy and tactics, Legion Arena is the ideal game for novice or experienced wargamers.

Legion Arena is a role playing strategy game on a massive scale. Take control of a small band of warriors and train them to be the mightiest army in the world.

I like it. Easy to learn and I like the concept of a more realistic approach to controlling armies, including delays sometimes for armies between when you give orders & when they are actually carried out (rather than the more frenetic pace of many other games today). Only hassle so far is getting the online multi-player feature to work.

While the 1.1.1 update allowed the game to be played in Leopard, for me since the OS 10.5.1 update the game has started rendering all the fighting figures gray during the battles and on the deployment screen. I've tried the game with both ATI and NVidia cards in my G5 and its the same with both...

A combat strategy game for one player or for online play. The interface is frustrating, it seems very difficult to select one or more squads or way points. In some cases it appears that its best to click just below an icon, but not always. Lots of long pauses for story-telling between battles. Battles are not randomly generated and are finite - I finished all of them in an evening. Essentially, there are three modes - stories, combat and the army camp where squads can be created, promoted (increased skills) and outfitted with better equipment. The manual has a few inaccuracies such as the Command key not allowing selection of more than one squad (click and drag across multiple squads or way points to select them.) Fun for a few hours.
