Mindburn

1.2.4
14 July 2006

Unique personal info manager.

Overview

Mindburn is a sophisticated tool to help you manage your personal knowledge. A powerful outliner combined with a flexible note editor let you summarize what you want to remember.

Then the science takes over: each note is scheduled for you to review at set times in the future thereby mindburning the knowledge into your memory. Now you can stop worrying about having to remember, it'll just happen.

What's new in Mindburn

Version 1.2.4:

Summary: Metal interface style now optional, popup panel when notes become due, dock icon changes, bug fixes.

Detail:
  • New preference option to switch to non-metal interface style. Non metal is now the default option, this may be changed via general preferences.
  • Optional popup panel for when notes become due. If Mindburn is hidden or in the background a panel will appear when a note becomes due.
  • Dock icon and due count graphic now has background. (to change to red see website support page)
  • Switching between databases caused some users to experience problems, these issues have been resolved.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

I like this concept :) The interface needs to be "polished" a bit but it's a good start. Keep up the good work!

Looks like this is a dead link - dev site looks like it has been parked.

First off, thank you for keeping this Panther compatible. Unless the program depends extensively on Core Data, I think it's lazy of developers to not keep their programs compatible with at least the last version of OS software. Kudos! I don't know what the other user meant by saying "the interface needs polished," but I'll tell you exactly what I would mean if I said that--brushed metal, ugh! Maybe this is whiny, but I think most apps have moved on from Brushed metal, and even if they still offer it, they'll still give an option for an Aqua or Unified appearance. As Dan Schimpf, developer of MacJournal says, Brushed Metal was not at all intended for a text processing application. Mac users maybe fixate too much, but if you considered offering another appearance option, I think I'd be much more willing to delve into the program since it has some really great features otherwise.

Just run UNO (http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/19384) and have a Unified look in ALL your apps regardless of what the developer created.

Thanks for the suggestion on Uno, but I guess you missed the 1st paragraph of my comment where I thanked the developer for keeping Mindburn panther-compatible; unfortunately Uno is Toger only.

When I wrote "the interface needs to be 'polished'", I meant I found the white folders not very nice and not very Mac-y. They're blue now. That was just my 2 cents.

Hi Thanks for the kind words, keeping Mindburn backwardly compatible was a requirement and as it turned out something of a challenge, worth it I hope. Metal. Okay, I give in, there's a preference for the Unified look (1.2.4) ... no excuses now, I'll be looking for your download ;-) Dan

Don't bother to look for my download--I already downloaded the new version several hours before you posted your comment here, having seen the new release announced on another site! :-) I'm so glad you relented on the appearance. I've actually spent a good 2 hours so far digging into the app and it's looking very promising. But really, this is the kind of app that requires *time* to see its use, which is why I'm glad you've limited the demo by amount of data rather than time. Whether I eventually purchase the app or not, I can certainly say this--you're the kind of conscientious developer that people should expect great things from.

Hi CA Thanks for the kind words, happy to hear you like the app. I'm always keen to hear from our users with any comments or suggestions, I'd love to hear specifically what you have in mind when you say: "needs more polish" on the Mindburn interface - maybe we can address that for you ... and get that last star ;-)
