GROSX (Google Reader for Mac OS X) is a small program that integrates Google Reader into OS X. GROSX uses the hooks in OS X to subscribe to a feed in Google Reader. It also sends notifications through Growl when new items arrive in your Google Reader account. Built with Universal Binary goodness.
Although I would like to be able to customize a little more (to hide the "GR:" in the menubar all together when no unread items), overall this is the only program I've seen that allows to show your unread google reader items outside a browser.
It's simple, fast, efficient, and does what you expect. A perfect companion to the official Google Notifer. It could definitely use a new icon though. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that uses google reader for RSS. I can't live without it anymore.
