What's New
Version 1.8.3:
  • Metronome now begins immediately when started.
  • Fixed a bug where bar counting during acceleration became erratic.
  • Fixed a mysterious bug where the acceleration rate in the Accelerator Panel wouldn't let you enter a negative value to allow you to de-accelerate.
  • Fixed a bug where users on pre-Leopard Mac OS X would see a useless 'Set Volume' button on the Countdown timer's window. Volume control over individual sounds used in Metronome is not supported on pre-Leopard systems.

Actually, I'm finding the same thing. About every 30 seconds or so, the metronome has a 'hiccup' for lack of a better term.

I checked running processes and the CPU is 3.9% occupied. iMac December 2009 model.

Just what I need. Thanks, Ron!

And oh, I made these for myself but if anyone wants Logic's metronome sound, get this

http://www.mediafire.com/?nzjr8v8e7jr8udu

Zip contains 2 aif files, an accent and a click.

There's a bug when trying to overwrite settings. For some reason it just creates a duplicate and if I trash the duplicate, the setting basically gets corrupted. Not a big deal but thought it was worth noticing.

Both problems mentioned by AARGL have been fixed in the current (1.8.2c) version of Metronome.

- Metronome now starts immediately when the space bar is pressed (or when any of the other ways of starting Metronome is used).

- And the missing or corrupt sounds warning will no longer appear if users move Metronome to a new location, which was causing those warnings.

Well, I would like putting a 5 stars for the simplicity of use, the low sensitivity about the overall activity of the computer, but there are only two little issues that avoided it:
- sometimes I've got a message saying that the sound selcted is corrupted, and I have to select it again. (actually the "Cow Bell" sound, chosen as "Bell sound")
- it doesn't start in sync when hitting the space bar
Apart from that, I love it. ;-)

While I'm sure this application is a great help to many musicians, I use it to time exposures while doing photographic light painting in a darkened studio.

Many thanks to the developer for this app.

The bug mentioned in my previous post has now been fixed. Metronome version 1.8 (actually version 1.8.1) works as advertised.

Hi there, I'm the developer of this thing. Version 1.8 has a bug in that it won't allow you to enter a bell accent other than '10' in the bell accent text field. This is a bug that slipped by me. I'll fix it ASAP. Until it's fixed, here's a link to version 1.7 which works as advertised, but without some of the newer features of v1.8.: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~ronfleckner/metronome/met17.zip

If you don't care about having a bell accent on anything above beat 10, then you can still use the newer 1.8 version. You can check if the bug has been fixed and the fixed version available via the app's Check For Update... menu item

For the record, the new version works perfectly for me, even with loads of other running apps. Kudos to the dev.

I'm not sure how to "back up" a claim about a piece of software that doesn't work for me as it should, but nevertheless I'll concede that my previous review was sort of unfair. I did quit all my other applications and try again, as the dev suggested; the problem persisted, so it's not just my own error that caused it. Still, it's pretty clear that mine is an unusual case, so I'll offer a new rating of five stars to offset my previous one and get back in the good graces of the dev so he doesn't blow me off when I email him for support. Like I should have done in the first place. ;)

I wrote my own cheesy little applescript studio program for finding the BPM from a keytap because i couldnt find the program anywhere. Im glad to see someone has actually spent the time to build this program right, and hey, its a metronome also.

This helps a lot if you are practicing something that you want to slowly speed up. No need to put down your instrument to adjust the speed, just hit the equals key and keep playing.

But with Metronome you don't even have to do that. The Accelerator increases the tempo at a rate you control. Why? So you can start a difficult piece slowly, and very gradually speed up without stopping to reset your metronome's tempo. The Accelerator will do it for you. You control the rate of increase AND when it increases and when it stops increasing. It's easy.

Metronome comes with two sounds, a snare rimshot for the click and a cow bell for the bell, but you can change the sounds to any ones you want using the Preferences. When you are choosing new sounds, you can preview/play them first.
