Star Trek type game, find the enemy ship and destroy it.

Overview

Romulan Hunt is a Star Trek strategy game for OS X, written in AppleScript Studio. Find the enemy ship and destroy it before he does the same to you! A math/strategy game that exercises geometry and trigonometry thinking skills.

What's new in Romulan Hunt

Version 1.5:
  • Some changes in Tiger's Applescript Studio events caused the targeting cursor not to work. This has been repaired.
  • Sound preferences are now saved between games. Turning off sound now no longer waits for the background sounds to end, but stops them immediately.
  • Compiled as a Universal Binary. Should run on Intel Macs.

This is possibly the worst game I have ever seen; but don't take my word for it, it's only small so download it for yourself and give it a go! Hint/tip: Even though the fields don't like being edited, that's how you move the aiming cursor! Keep trying until it works! Sorry Author, but this is a zero out of 10, only because I can't give a negative score. The sounds are WAAAAAY overdone and the gameplay boring.

I wonder if Mr Godman read the destructions? It is, after all, a venerable piece of programming at 21 years of age, using unsophisticated (by current standards) software. It also gives tremendous insight into how far computer gaming has progressed in 20 years and how our tastes and expectations have evolved. It is a giggle to see something like this come back to life and as such, I must rate the effort highly.

Thanks for the nice review, and for understanding what I was doing here. Yes, it shows how games have advanced over the years, and it was also an experiment to see how far I could push Applescript Studio (which has no native graphics) to do a graphic-type game.

Sorry you feel that way about the game. Working within the confines of what AppleScript Studio will do, it's pretty much pushing the limits. As for moving the cursor, simply clicking in the display screen area will re-target the weapons. RH is meant to be a math/strategy game, not an animated shoot'em up. The object is to triangulate the enemy's position within the 3 shot limit. As for the sound effects, you can turn them off by unchecking the "Sound On" menu item.
