I Love Lamp

2.1
13 July 2007

A vivid, psychedelic lava lamp widget.

Overview

Note: iSlayer, now Bjango, has closed its site and ceased development of all its widgets, focusing its attention on its Bjango products.

I Love Lamp is colorful, psychedelic treat.

Bring the 60's to your Dashboard with this simple lava lamp widget that uses Quartz to render a non-stop stream of animated bubbles.

What's new in I Love Lamp

Version 2.1:
  • You can now choose the lava and background color from 15 different color schemes (giving a total of 150 combinations)
  • More random than before
  • More optimised, so even nicer on your CPU
  • Some small bug fixes and tweaks
  • An updated icon and default image

Beautiful little digital kitsch memorabilia. Well done, now all we can want for is a SCREEN SAVER version of this! Donationware me! This is what Mac comupting is all about. Slick. Thanks...and Merry Christmas...

Uh oh. The iSlayer website is acting dead. Also, my installation of I Love Lamp has stopped working. It says it's missing a plug-in. Oh no.

Derekcurrie, you're right about iSlayer's Web site. It appears that the domain name has been offered for sale, though its registration is valid for a few more months. That means that the download for I Love Lamp is also… well, burned out. I've contacted the developer, and will post further information when we hear something from him. However, given that this listing hasn't been updated in more than six years, it may be another chapter in "When Bad Things Happen to Good Lava Lamps".

Derekcurrie, I've heard from iSlayer. The developer wrote,… "We ceased development on all iSlayer widgets years ago and kept the site online for quite some time afterwards, to let people continue to download our free widgets. We don't have any plan to reopen the site or to pick up development of the widgets. Our time and effort is now focused on our Bjango products, like iStat Menus and Skala Preview." So, it appears that you're going to have to abandon the once-ubiquitous lava lamp in favor of Philips Hue bulbs.

It doesn't seem to be working for me. I get the frame of the lamp, and a little lego brick with a question mark on it where the lava should be. I've played sudoku on my dashboard for about an hour waiting for it to kick in, but nothing...

Hi, we did remove it due to copyright issues, but now we're back, working together and with full permission. For the full story, please read our blog: http://islayer.com/blog/?p=99

I don't know what's going on - I get the lamp but I don't get the 'lava'. Looks good, wish I could get it to work.

A great widget which takes me back to a more pleasant time and space. Thanks for the fix on the "disappearing" widget.

Version 1.5 gets rid of any complaints I had about this widget. The new retro look is very sleek! Appears to use little CPU (none when Dashboard is hidden) and no longer restarts when bringing up Dashboard.

I love this widget - it lets you add a little personal style to the dashboard. Only one little potential bug: it closes whenever I restart. Everytime I restart, I have to launch it again. Anyone else experiencing this?
