Uses microphone to listen to song and give artist information.
Overview
Tunatic helps you identify a song playing on the radio. Simply use a microphone and let Tunatic listen to the song. It will then query its search engine with possible artist names and song titles.
All you need is a microphone and Internet access.

Didn't identify "Heroes" by David Bowie or any other song I tried. It's nice it's free so gets a point for that and the simple interface. Other than that it's of little if any use.
Doesn't work!
Tried it with several well-known songs. Didn't recognise even one of them.
Better of using iPhone Apps such as Shazam, Soundhound, or MusicID. Though the free version of Shazam is now poor.
I'm running MacOSX 10.6.7 on a 24in iMac.
This is just... wow...
I haven't found a practical use for this yet, but I can see why it would be useful! Some songs it can identify in seconds, and it has worked for nealy everything so far, the exception being:
Prolouge - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Prolouge - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Hardly suprising, as it did it really quickly, not listening far enough to hear the differences...
Fantastic software, easy to use, no problems so far, great for freeware! Thanks to the developer!
Works great for the last several songs I've played.
It has even recognized George Carlin stand-up comedy (purely voice, not music).
I'd suggest others download Tunalyzer from the developers site, which analyzes the music in your iTunes Library and adds it to Tunatics peer-edited database of songs (found out about it when looking through devs site to see how program works).
Neat little program - I haven't had much opportunity to test it, but this comment has little to do with that.
One feature that I would find even more useful than it's current use would be the ability to identify songs playing on my computer. It would come in handy for all the "Track 01"'s that I have, but do not know the names of.

Use WireTap Anywhere to create a new Input Device (using Mac Audio) to fix this.
This product seems to be in its infancy right now. I threw a bunch on known stuff at it, all very recognizable, from Classical, to Popular, TV and Movie themes. It only got about 10% of them. While the product is entertaining, it is not ready for any serious identification yet. However it has strong for the future. Let me put it this way. Here is what it failed to recognize:
Gunsmoke
Bonanza - Even when sung by Loren Green.
Dragnet
Jag
Ally McBeal
Cold Case
Forrest Gump
The Ludlows
Evita
Riverdance took two tries
ContePartiro by Andrew Bocelli
Classical Gas
Pachebel's Cannon
Twenty Six Miles (The Four Preps) - Catalina song
Mandy
Evergreen
Dancing Queen
You get the idea.

One Tunatic Identifies a song the button should change from the X back to the Magnifying Glass. This would eliminate the need to click twice when identifying another song.

This is a cool little app. A couple of suggestions that I can think of are:
Make it widget.
Make it skin-able.
Make the default plain ol' aqua
Have optional skins: brushed metal, car stereo, plus the current purple one also available in different colors.
Does what it says. Worked for some of my songs, but it needs more. The cool thing is if you get the other half to it. The way it works, from my understanding, is that it gets the fingerprint of what a song looks like, and uploads it to the main database. So you get the program linked below, and it will listen to iTunes as you play and upload the fingerprints automatically.
