Ghost Sphere overview

Ghost Sphere can just hide complete folders from others eyes. To archive this goal, the software uses three ways to hide and protect your folders. Your folders are even hidden in Spotlight searches.

Hackers and users with advanced skills could, with particular expertise, recover the invisible folders. However, for the very great majority of users, access to these folders becomes impossible. This is also a good way to protect your folder from being erased or modified by other users like your children.

Ghost Sphere also creates and handles 128 or 256bit AES encrypted Disk Images. These images are hidden, shown, mounted and unmounted by Ghost Sphere. The Encrypted Sparse Disk Images are Apple Standard and grow with the content. If you try to mount them manually the password is required.

Ghost Sphere can apply a special lock on the images to make them unusable in the Finder.

You can install the Mobile Edition from within Ghost Sphere on mobile drives, usb sticks and so on, so that you can access your data even on systems without Ghost Sphere.

A short list of the most important features:
  • Easy to use interface
  • Chameleon effect
  • Automated show/hide function
  • Password protected
  • 448bit encrypted database
  • Build-in help
  • Vault creation
  • Mobile Edition included

"To archive this goal"? I think you must have meant -- To achieve this goal. :-)

I have been using GS for long time, But I feel it became ridiculously easy to uncover the folders + change permissions. The level of safety is definitely not suiting me anymore.

I've been using GhostSpher since 2007 and it has done its job very well. Last week my mac had some problems that I repaired but gs would not make my folder accessible. After trying all that I know, which isn't very much, I wrote to the developer at spherecorner.com and related the problem. He replied quickly and made some suggestions which didn't work. We traded a couple of emails, I gave more info and he came up with a list of 4 things to try, one at a time... and the second item on his list did the job. My files are accessible again, GS is working perfectly and I can't thank Pascal enough for his commitment to supporting his very good app. That kind of support elevates a great app to further hights. Thank you again Pascal. dan_A nyc

This is definitively the best software of this kind I ever had in my hands. It does not just put a dot in front of the name. I'm comfortable in using the terminal and I was not able to access my hidden folder without using all my tricks. Yes, a hacker may access your hidden folders, but a Unix amateur with some knowledge certainly not. When it comes to encrypted disks, even a hacker has no chance. I love the iPhoto feature. I can now hide my adult photos library and every time I close the software and someone else opens iPhoto again my public iPhoto library is presented instead. You can do all this with the terminal but not within seconds and with Ghost Sphere you never omit to type a command to ensure that you get no surprise once someone else uses your computer next time. Greetings from Germany.

SetFile -a V (file/folder) Congratulations, you just saved ten dollars. Put your stuff in an encrypted disk image if you really think the bad guys are out to get you.

I've PURCHASED and tried this. It works great. The Vault is saved with a dot and a filename. So what if you can go into term and see it? Or from Spotlight. It is encrypted and there is nothing you or whomever steals your file can do with it! Can't get to the stuff inside the file. What's with the nagging thing? It is only $10! Cheapskates! You guys should move to a FOSS OS and/or roll your own.

The FREE app. "Disappear" does quite a nice job at hiding one's secret folder and its contents. Tried out Ghost Sphere and must agree with everyone else, the nagging "Register Now" is more than nagging. It's downright irritating. Why pay for an app. when a free does the same job?

Since I downloaded AppZapper, I'm trying out so many more apps than I would have. After reading the review about the annoying nag messages from one of the reviewers here on MU, I thought, "Hmm.. how annoying can it be?" It is annoying. It seemed like each action I took to try the features of this app triggered a "WARNING - YOU NEED TO REGISTER THIS APPLICATION" Who knows, it might be useful. However, I'm a Mac user. I'm unwilling to pay for a non-sexy app. Zap!

GhostSphere is unfortunately in the same mold as Apimac's Secret Folder. Don't be fooled in believing that GhostSphere uses an “advanced way to hide folders” and employs a “448 bit military strong encryption“ in doing so. GhostSphere might achieve the latter when creating a disk image, but so are better freeware apps out there (Secret Service, Hide Safe), and in demo mode the “vault feature” is deactivated. Let's look at the standard feature of hiding folders instead: generally all GhostSphere does is putting a “.” in front of the folder, thereby making it invisible. The folder is not moved and still there... which means, that by making invisible items visible it will be revealed. Even in invisible mode Spotlight was right on the spot in finding files within the “hidden folder.” So much for the “Spotlight safe guarantee” (probably only true when the folders are encrypted on a disk image, but this should be clearly stated by the developer).

I'd like to try this, but the demo is so in your face that it is not possible. When the application launches a message about the limitations of the demo and encouragement to purchase it are displayed. No problem, I read this and fully understood it. One of the limitations of the demo is that it quits after just 3 Mins! Well I can accept that, but everytime I tried to do something... like hide a file! the dam demo reminder box pops up and is displayed for several seconds. Like I said I read and understood it the first time. Anyway with this message eager to pop up and prevent me actually trying the software out, I think I actually just tried out their demo message box.. Great idea guys!.... I wonder what the software actually does and if It would suit my needs? hardcat
