I am trying to download Front Row ENABLER 1.5 from the URL: andrewescobar.com as suggested by MacUpdate but his page cannot be had. How do I go about downloading this FRONT ROW ENABLER 1.5 for my Mac laptop 10.4X? Anyone out there who can help me?? Does anyone have a copy available to me?

Wait for the spinning wheel to stop (believe it or not it WILL boot, takes about 10 minutes). Go do something else and come back. Once booted, everything will be INCREDIBLY slow. Go download 'Applejack' from here no matter what. Install and run. After that try Apple's Disk Utility' or 'DiskWarrior'. Problem should be fixed.

Ok, I installed and enabled, and it appeared to work. However, on restarting, I can't find Front Row ANYWHERE. I followed the instructions to the letter. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? BTW, I have a 1.42 Ghz eMac.

got it to install on my G5, but no matter what I do can't get it to install on my G4. Re-did the 10.4.8 update, intall F.R., go to enable. and it says "can't enable..." Shame, the G4 is the one I really need it on.

The Disk Image is not corrupt. The developer has added another extension on the the download that will make you're computer see it as an archive. Just remove the extra extension (so .dmg is the only extension) and then try opening it. Dan

What I ended up doing was reinstalling, but "preserve users" under the "options" when you go to intall. This worked fine (Front Row and the enabler) with 10.4.5 and before, but not after. The "preserve/intstall" at least sort of got things working in a somewhat painless way...I had a couple of hours getting things perfect after the reinstall, however. Much luck!

Before Mac OS 10.4.5 this hack works fine for me on my mac mini G4. But today i want to use Front Row after a long time and it didn't work under 10.4.8. I downloaded this hack again, installed it and after a restart i can see only a blue screen, nothing more. I was happy that i have made a seperatly install of OS X on an external FireWire HD. I must boot from them and made a restore of the changed items. The manual for this you can find on the website of the publisher. But it was not so funny on the first moment

I have found this hack to be the easiest and most conveinient way to destroy my mac. The blue screen of death after start up is perfect for recent mac switchers, who miss there old PC's. Even after reading the exact instruction's from the website, this recked my mac. I tested this only my old g4 800, 10.4.6.

!! After installation my network settings unchain itself every reboot. What the hell... ? Not forgetting: You patched your system. What potential! :-( Anyone who have the same prob? (Repairing the rights won't solve it.) Btw.: FR doesn't work for my 10.4.8, earler versions did. !!

When installing on 10.4.8 the installer screws up /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/ . This plug-in is read during startup just before the login dialog is shown, al least if you require pwd authentication. (To see where the system fails, press command-v at startup, after the chime, to unhide the console.) Solution if your computer can start in firewire target mode. and you have access to a working mac running the same os. 1. Start the corrupted mac in firewire target mode (hold down the t key when turning the power on). 2. Connect the corrupt mac to the working mac using firewire. (Start the working mac if not started.) 3. Wait for the corrupt mac's disk to be mounted as a removable firewire disk on the working mac. 4. Start Terminal.app on the working mac. 5. In a terminal window, isse the command: cp -r /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/ /Volumes/[corrupt_mac_name]/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/ This will replace the defunct plug-in with a working one. At least it did for me.

Whatever you do, don't click the Enable Front Row button in Enabler if you are using Mac OS 10.4.7 or 10.4.8. It will destroy your system. Your Mac will startup and you will see the blue screen but your desktop will NOT load. You will end up having to reinstall Mac OS 10.4 via the Archive & Install feature on your Mac OS 10.4 Installation disk. I had to go through this TWICE due to Enabler screwing up my system If Front Row stops working after upgrading to 10.4.8, just wait until Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) ships, which will include the next version of Front Row for both PowerPC and Intel systems.

Works great on my PowerBook G4! But then again, I DID read the instructions (which even refer to the exact user error that results in the exactly documented problems (and the solution!)) that those who obviously DIDN'T read the instructions are complaining about! Thanks for a GREAT piece of FREE software that works perfectly!!!! Mark

A full archive and install is not needed to fix the SystemUIServer crashes (due to user errors)! Read the instructions and you will avoid having problems. Even if you mess it up, no real harm will be done to your machine. You'll just need to copy BezelServices.framework and BezelServices.loginPlugin using Pacifist and the SystemUIServer will relaunch correctly *immediately*. It's so silly when people complain and poorly rate products because they didn't bother to read the read me. If you're going to run a hack on your Mac you really ought to read the instructions instead of aimlessly running applications and clicking buttons and giving your password out to any application.

Agree with "Jim Milton" below. This app is causing issues system wide on my machine. Spotlight no longer shows up. Airport menu no longer shows up. Screen captures of any kind no longer work. Re-enabling these items in System Preferences does nothing, so it's clearly an issue with this application. Would NOT recommend this application as it's highly unstable and screws with important system files.

This app has caused a LOT of problems, ie: the most common would be a loss of your menu bar items, loss of spotlight, volume control, airport indicator, etc. Following the directions exactly as posted does not in all cases make this app work on your mac. In my humble opinion, use Equinux's Media Central free software application. It works, and does a lot more than Front Row. http://www.equinux.com/us/start/index.html. A lot of people are having to do a complete reinstall of mac osx (not an archive and install). So, be very cautious if you choose to use Front Row enabler.

I have installed FR 1.2.1 using the Enabler with no problems on a G3 iMac 450Mhz 256Mb running OSX 10.4.6. There is only one problem and that is the bottom half of the FR screen is back to front. Does anyone have any ideas or is it just too adventurous getting it running on the G3. I have tried to install the 10.4.6 update, but still no luck.

DON'T USE THIS PROGRAM! The author does not give fair warning on what can happen to your system. I have lost my menubar items, and now have to try restoring them using the 10.4.5 combo updater. But first, I want to make DVD backups of my files, but my system won't recognize DVD's anymore. This program is nowhere near the trouble!

I dont remember reading what this utility actually modifies, IR trickery(?) however it worked as advertised *for me*. Many are having problems with the menubar after attempting this hack. This is the caveat to modifying your system. I started with a fresh 10.4.5 Combo update. Immediately installed FrontRow121 update, which I modified so it could be installed and rebooted. I then installed all the coincident updates to iTunes/iPhoto/OSX & Security. No problems. ** I had previously and successfully installed FrontRow101 and patched it per Escobar's instructions. ** Im sure there could be different variations for install just as different variations of system installs will affect the outcome of your hack. My rating does reflect how pleased I am to be using Front Row on my DualG4. Could I do without Front Row? Most likely yes. Was it worth the risk? No. But it is pretty cool...and I will be using it after all.

The old enabler worked fine for me but this new enabler has not allowed me to get things to work since updating to 10.4.4. It managed to delete my top right menu bar items (spotlight icon etc), stop my DVD player from recognising discs and cause my sys keyboard preferences to crash out when openned. I have managed to get these back (I hope perminantly) by a combination of reinstalling the update and rebooting. Tried to delete the front row app but can't as it says it is running so I guess I am just going to have to leave it like this. Would not reommend this update until these problems are fixed. Ric

I noticed it replaced the DVD Player.app from the Applications folder which is now 4.6.5 after the 10.4.4 update back to 4.6.3 and also the bezel parts are older version which have caused various issues and the only way for everything to run noramlly again is to re-install the 10.4.4 Update or the one I prefer is the 10.4.4 combo update.

I followed all the instructions and installed Front Row on my iBook G4 (1.22 GHz) and it runs perfectly. There is one thing though... every time I start up my computer, a file is created called "FrontRowExportPlaylist.xml" is created in a folder called "recovered items" in my trash. Front Row still works fine and I haven't noticed any problems I just think it's kinda weird.

I have front row now installed on my G4 PowerBook and it works fine except for one small thing. When I run a slideshow in Front Row it shows the slide menu at the bottom and I can't find how to remove this. I've been into iPhoto but there is no general setting for this. You can turn it on and off for an individal slideshow - but if I run a slideshow with it off in front row, the menu still shows. Can anyone help?

Here's something that might help those who are having trouble: I had been using Front Row version 1, and had a separate launcher app that I activated with Xkeys. When I tried using this version following the instructions listed above, The Command Esc. shortcut didn't work. I resolved the problem by deleting the two Xkeys preference files located in the User > Library > Preferences folder. Also, I deleted all Front Row related launcher apps and scripts from my machine; the only thing I have now is Front Row 1.1 and Front Row Enabler (1.01). Don't forget to restart your machine! IMO, Front Row Enabler--and the directions above--is by far the least troublesome way to get Front Row on your machine. Follow the directions exactly, and make sure you run the enabler FROM THE DISK iIMAGE--do NOT copy it to your machine prior to running it.

I completed the installation of Front Row 1.0 and then the 1.0.1 update from apple along with pacafist and ran Dr. Brown's Front Row Enabler. Restarted and ran repair script. Front Row works on my iBook G4, 1.43 ghz. Everything works flawlessly. There is some lag, but I'm sure that's because of the lack of RAM, processor, vid RAM etc. compared with the iMac. HOWEEVER, every time i restart my computer after having used Front Row, there is something in my trash can. Within the trash can is the following: Trash>recovered files>FrontRowExportPlaylist.xml Do you know what this is? Does this process of automatically deleting this file in my trash can affect my computer? How do I stop this? Anyone else have this problem Help much appreciated and thanks!

OK for those of you who are having trouble getting the thing to work this is my saga. I had installed the previous front row on my powerbook. I think this is just one of many problems... First, the files I got were compiled on http://mcmacsite.com/ which was a bad file. Get Pacifist from there but do not use the other files included from them. Next you will need front row which should be obtained from Apples website. Next download the Front Row Enabler from mac update. This is where things get a little interesting. Make sure you do not have FR in your applications folder or your core services folder. Than install the front row updater 1.0.1 from apple using Pacifist. repair disk permissions. Than run the FR enabler and than restart immediately. Once you are logged back on check to see if the cmd-esc has been added to you keyboard shortcuts. Do another disk permissions fix and when that is complete hit those magic keys and volia. Front Row. Email for help.

I have never had any problems with access privileges before as I am the Admin of the mac. Note: I did run this script from the desktop (not the disk image) and didn't get access privilege problem but got another: my keyboard and mouse preference crashed while trying to get to the shortcut for FR. Like many users, I follow the steps to install the version 1.0.1 but the program didn't start pressing cmd+esc after rebooting. I delete the file "com.apple.frontrow.plist" in "/System/Library/LaunchAgents" that I had install with a previous version of front row, and now everything seems ok. I hope it will help.

You can use any multi button mouse. I'm using a Logitech MediaPlay mouse with USBoverdrive on my cube. Works like a dream! I sure hope Apple gets this out for all Macs and lets you access your ipod library from Front Row.

I cannot believe the stupidy of some people - as if reading a paragraph & following the instructions was beyond you. The comments section of Macupdate isn't a forum for asking stupid questions. I have got this to work on various very old G4 & newish G5 machines and they ALL work fine, the only thing to be aware of is that Front Row will continue to use up about 27mb of Ram even once you quit - use Activity Monitor to quit this process if you need the ram. Whats the purpose of Front Row? - Well with the TV Out option on my powerbook & my bluetooth keyboard i can recreate the same effect as on an the iMac G5 Remote - a simple media centre. Please stop posting irrelevent comments & questions!

iBook G4, 933Mhz, 1.12 GB RAM Installed according to FRE instructions. Install goes fine. Frontrow doens't work. When I hit the shortcut key, nothing happens, except the activity which goes to 100% CPU. bad thing

i doubt apple will like this, but they should. i mean it's a little useless for me other than to see how it really works (i've got no remote & no bluetooth), but it makes me want a new imac.

Just a heads up to everyone. You probably should back up appropreate files before you install this. It disabled the Bluetooth adapter on my PowerMac G5 and after playing DVD's I have to restart to eject them. Kind of anoying.

imac g5 1.8ghz -- no go. using top i see that the process starts goes for a few seconds and then stops... and then starts again... looks like a loop. i never see front row though. the pid num for front row is flying. considering this was just out of curiousity it totally wasn't worth the trouble.

I installed it entirely according the description given above, but the only thing that i can make my mac do is get the fan working overtime without even a program running. the mac doesn't get slower, but only the fan starts to blow even harder. when i try to shut down my computer, just before it shuts down, front row appears. which is of no use anymore, because the computer is shutting down. any more people with the same problem? ... and rather some people with a sollution? ;)

Works just as described, truly awesome. The photos section is particularly nice on my large screen. Not sure if this application is technically legal or not but I'm glad I got my copy before Apple has it pulled... smart move releasing it over the weekend, people pay less attention.

It does work well for me, however it is of course very sluggish on my iBook G3 and the menu label fonts (i.e. iTunes, iPhoto) are mirror imaged and upside down. Interesting effect.

Went through installation process as specified. After reboot, the keyboard and mouse preferences would open, but attempting to open the shortcuts tab would crash it. Running FRE and uninstalling fixes the shortcuts tab, but obviously no Front Row. Running an imac g5 20"/2ghz/10.4.3

Unfortunately, this doesn't work on my iMac G5 (without iSight built in). Followed instructions exactly - even tried repairing permissions manually afterwards. No luck!
