I am trying to download Front Row ENABLER 1.5 from the URL: andrewescobar.com as suggested by MacUpdate but his page cannot be had.
How do I go about downloading this FRONT ROW ENABLER 1.5 for my Mac laptop 10.4X?
Anyone out there who can help me?? Does anyone have a copy available to me?

Wait for the spinning wheel to stop (believe it or not it WILL boot, takes about 10 minutes). Go do something else and come back. Once booted, everything will be INCREDIBLY slow. Go download 'Applejack' from here no matter what. Install and run. After that try Apple's Disk Utility' or 'DiskWarrior'. Problem should be fixed.

Includes Front Row????

Wow, I'm not sure who's more gutsy: you, for packaging and redistributing Apple software, or MU, for letting you post it here.

From his website it looks like you still have to download Front Row from Apple. From what I can determine, Enabler now has the option to *install* Front Row from within Enabler instead of running Enabler and having it patch the Front Row installer so you can install etc.

got it to install on my G5, but no matter what I do can't get it to install on my G4. Re-did the 10.4.8 update, intall F.R., go to enable. and it says "can't enable..."

Shame, the G4 is the one I really need it on.

I had the same experience as DLFTNAM and Fighting Cat. A reinstall of Mac OS solved the problem. Try Front Row 1.2. See instructions here below:

STEP 1. Download JacksonBrown's patched Front Row STW. rapidshare.de/files/6669514/Front_Row__k_.zip.html.His brilliant patching work makes Front Row run under 10.4.2 without having the iMac's remote present. There are three files inside this .ZIP - Readme.txt you may now ignore, as it is out of date. ?- Front Row.app copy to the Applications folder - BezelServices.framework copy to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ At this point you will need to reboot your computer.

STEP 2. Open Script Editor.app (located in Applications/AppleScript) and paste in the following code.
tell application "System Events"
tell application "Front Row" to activate
key code 53 using {command down}
end tell

Once you have done this, save it as an application named openfrontrow.app in your applications folder.

STEP 3. Now go to macupdate and download the program named Xkeys. It is freeware. Once you have the file downloaded, install it and then open it up. Inside the program, configure your F8 key to run your openfrontrow.app file you created in STEP2.

STEP 4. Now go into System Preferences. In the Accounts preference tab set up front row.app (the one you downloaded, NOT to be confused with openfrontrow.app that you created in STEP2) to be a login item.

STEP 5. Reboot your computer. When it turns back on, press the F8 key and hopefully you will be experiencing Front Row! Pressing F8 again (or a lot of other keys on the keyboard) will close Front Row.

What I ended up doing was reinstalling, but "preserve users" under the "options" when you go to intall.

This worked fine (Front Row and the enabler) with 10.4.5 and before, but not after.

The "preserve/intstall" at least sort of got things working in a somewhat painless way...I had a couple of hours getting things perfect after the reinstall, however.

Much luck!

Before Mac OS 10.4.5 this hack works fine for me on my mac mini G4. But today i want to use Front Row after a long time and it didn't work under 10.4.8. I downloaded this hack again, installed it and after a restart i can see only a blue screen, nothing more. I was happy that i have made a seperatly install of OS X on an external FireWire HD. I must boot from them and made a restore of the changed items. The manual for this you can find on the website of the publisher. But it was not so funny on the first moment

Ok, I installed and enabled, and it appeared to work. However, on restarting, I can't find Front Row ANYWHERE. I followed the instructions to the letter. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? BTW, I have a 1.42 Ghz eMac.

The Disk Image is not corrupt. The developer has added another extension on the the download that will make you're computer see it as an archive. Just remove the extra extension (so .dmg is the only extension) and then try opening it.

When installing on 10.4.8 the installer screws up
/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/ . This plug-in is read during startup just before the login dialog is shown, al least if you require pwd authentication. (To see where the system fails, press command-v at startup, after the chime, to unhide the console.)

Solution if your computer can start in firewire target mode. and you have access to a working mac running the same os.
1. Start the corrupted mac in firewire target mode (hold down the t key when turning the power on).
2. Connect the corrupt mac to the working mac using firewire. (Start the working mac if not started.)
3. Wait for the corrupt mac's disk to be mounted as a removable firewire disk on the working mac.
4. Start Terminal.app on the working mac.
5. In a terminal window, isse the command:
cp -r /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/ /Volumes/[corrupt_mac_name]/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/

This will replace the defunct plug-in with a working one. At least it did for me.

Whatever you do, don't click the Enable Front Row button in Enabler if you are using Mac OS 10.4.7 or 10.4.8. It will destroy your system.

Your Mac will startup and you will see the blue screen but your desktop will NOT load.

You will end up having to reinstall Mac OS 10.4 via the Archive & Install feature on your Mac OS 10.4 Installation disk.

I had to go through this TWICE due to Enabler screwing up my system

If Front Row stops working after upgrading to 10.4.8, just wait until Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) ships, which will include the next version of Front Row for both PowerPC and Intel systems.

If this program crashes your loginwindow, before you reinstall, try just disabling BezelServices. Go into System>Library>LoginPlugins and rename BezelServices.loginPlugin to something else. This brought my system back up with no reinstall!

How i'm going to get my volume keys back I don't know, but at least my computer works.

You can get this file back by using Pacifist on the pkg file from the 10.4.8 update downloaded from Apple.com

And the way to make FrontRow Enabler work with 10.4.8 is explained here:

Good luck,

ATTENTION!

If you have already screwed up your Mac via using Enabler on Mac 10.8 you don't have to reinstall mac os, as thought earlier. IF there is another mac available, put the bugged mac in target disk mode, and copy core services from /Volume/System/ to the bugged computer, this will allow you to get back into your system. Please note that you time and network settings will be gone, but this is a whole lot easier than archive and install. Hope this helps.

I have installed FR 1.2.1 using the Enabler with no problems on a G3 iMac 450Mhz 256Mb running OSX 10.4.6.

There is only one problem and that is the bottom half of the FR screen is back to front. Does anyone have any ideas or is it just too adventurous getting it running on the G3.

I have tried to install the 10.4.6 update, but still no luck.
