Not to worry "Not A Fool", I had the same dilemma but when I opened FrontRow. However, when I opened FrontRow S.W. version indicated 2.1.7 even though the version in my Applications folder only shows version 1.0 using 'get info'. It updates properly but makes no other indication that it IS updated. Apple works in mysterious ways. Just use it and go with the flow.

I am rather confused. I have downloaded and installed this update, but when I use the "Get Info" option on my "Front Row" application it shows as Version 1.0 and only 376Kb in size - created 2 June 2008. Can someone tell me just what is going on ? The application works, but I have no way of knowing whether Version 2.1.7 has in fact been installed or not. Pretty peculiar !! I am using an iMac G5 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX version 10.5.6

Still doesn't understand the concept of network shares. iTunes has no problem loading its library from a file server on my LAN. This means I can have one iTunes library across all machines in my house. So what's Front Row's problem? The switch from being a front-end to iTunes broke much functionality...

It would be too kind of apple, if they let us turn off the annoying twist of the song title every 30 seconds. Come on. This isn't disneyland. I'd like to use front row more, but this really keeps me away from it. It looks ridiculous.

I cannot read the names of MANY of my files because the font size is just too big. Many PC home theater apps have the file name scroll if it is too large to be displayed. I can't play my media if I don't know what I'm playing! Media Central also suffers from this problem. Any solutions out there?

I install with total success Apple Front Row 1.3 using Andrew Escobar's "Front Row Enabler" (http://andrewescobar.com/frontrow)... simply renaming 1.3 version at 1.22! MANY THANX Andrew!!!

Excellent! Finally Apple have fixed the 'movie trailer not responding' errors. Also, it still works with Andrew Escobars Front Row Enabler. Just download this update and install using Pacifist if you don't have built-in IR. (And for those who wonder what the point of Front Row is without an Apple Remote - there are many other remotes you can use with Front Row. I use my Sony Ericsson K750 phone via Bluetooth for instance.)

I have a couple of issues with front row: in the music section I have around 9000 songs lots of different artists and albums, scrolling though takes a long time, you also have to go A>Z Playlists show up only as the songs, I tried setting a playlist of Artists beginning with A, within itunes you would see them artists and there albums and songs, in front row it goes straight to songs which is useless. If you accidentally page back from selecting and go back, your right back at A! No proper separate monitor support, I have to get up and change the iMac to mirror display, so basically you have to make settings on the computer before using the remote. This renders the programme a half arsed waste of time.

Front Row is much needed on the mac platform. If you install the DivX Component, it will even play DivX video files. There's a BIG drawback. If you have a widescreen monitor (or TV) hooked up to your mac, and the video source is 4:3, there is no way to stretch the video to fill the screen. This renders Front Row useless for everybody with a widescreen display. Unless there's a hack or hidden setting to "force the aspect ratio to 16:9" like in VLC or MplayerOSX, this is a nice grandma-software toy but nothing more.

This software is very beta feature wise. I haven't experienced any out and out crashes with it, but it has frozen up inexplicably alot, sometimes it unfreezes in a bit, sometimes not. There is alot to be desired. It's merely a front end to iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, and DVD player. And when you exit its shiny feature-thin interface, it leaves these programs running. If apple truly wants to enter into the media center paradigm they needs to write a media center framework and API that all software developers can access. iTunes, iPhoto and the rest should merely be interfaces to this framework, and Front Row would as well. * The List font size is not adjustable, it gives a huge chunk of un-used space to the left of text, the result being that most of the entries in your playlist, movie list, whatever, end up getting cut off. * The Movie Trailers feature, which is essentially a front-end to apple's quicktime movie trail website, is poorly design. The interface completely stalls while it downloads posters, giving no indication of what's going on, there is no option to set your desired trailer bandwidth ala low, media, high.. Perhaps it pulls this from your quicktime settings, perhaps not. * The DVD feature is merely a front-end to DVD player, not a DVD recorder. What's the point in opening this to play a DVD when DVD Player does it and gives me so much more control over the experience? If it is going to just be a front end they shouldn't try to hide it, it's just ends up being DVD Player Lite. So, on the whole, I'd say Apple jumped the gun on this one. The new iMac G5 is touted for its nifty remote and this nifty program called front row. But in the end they just put an IR receiver in the imac, shoved some remote control bits in an ipod shuffle case, and hacked up a front end to the same old apps they ship on all other macs. Apple hasn't cared much about the media center market, though they claimed to be the digital hub, so the real question is, why the rush now? No revolution, no innovation, just a late-to-the-party product that was rushed out without forethought. I really was expecting Apple quality in an Apple program. Maybe by version 3 it will be what it claims to be, that tends to be the mantra for Microsoft products anyway.

If you are running FrontRow and don't meet the requirements of having an iMac, be aware that this won't install directly from the package. I'm sure that after some time, this will change and FrontRow's first update will be available as it is with the original release.
