There is nothing "Ez" about this! It is the most complicated programme I have ever downloaded for the mac and has been deposited in the bin where it belongs.

ABANDONWARE. But it still works, as of today anyway. I still find it does some useful unique odds and ends, such as opening .ZAD archives. ALTERNATIVES: - Use Keka! It's a great free compression app that's constantly being updated. - The Unarchiver (the *real* version) is very good, but I find I rarely use it. - Don't bother with 7zX. It's abandonware as well as adware. Let it die. - BetterZip has a friendly trial period. But it costs $25. If you find yourself stuck with an odd archive format for which you can't find a compatible expansion app, you may find there are CLI (Terminal) apps to do just what you need. Many of the are already built into macOS. Others may be part of open source projects. Some may make you pay for a license, such as the RAR compression license.

Be careful. Password protecting something compressed with this app doesn't mean you can use the password and uncompress it with another 7zip program. You are basically trapped into using this. =(

The developer's page is offline... currently replaced by a domain squatter who has taken the domain for it and is trying to sell it for $70. His other domain which the download link goes to is not responding. It's been over 160 days since the developer's account has shown activity on MacUpdate. It may be time to find something else. :-( What a bummer

Not to worry, I'll add it back once I figure out two bugs related to it. 1) The expanded contents would never have an extension, so if you didn't know it beforehand, you may not be able to open the files. (Maybe I can include a .ds_store-like file that lists the extensions?) 2) Creating BZIP2s in some cases would just bring up an "INVALID ARG" error.

I think the problem may be with the 7za binary that you use for BZIP2. Why don't you try the official BZIP2 binary for compression and decompression instead of the 7za binary?

You can also use "The Unarchiver" (free) or keka (free version for MacOS 10.4 on their website) or "StuffIt Expander" (free) or iArchiver (shareware) or "Compress Files" (shareware) in order to expand a .7z file

Ah I guess I've never been in the situation where I've needed to PAR2 a split archive. Here's a solution: Make a folder and put all parts of the multi-part archive in there. Create PAR2 files from the folder (In a folder outside the folder with the archive in it). Drag the PAR2 files back into the archive folder so that everything is in one folder. I'll go ahead and add that to the Read Me.

It says "Incorrect Password," if the size of the parent of the output folder does not change after the process. So if you expanded something to the same place twice without the "Overwrite..." box checked then that would bring up this error. Basically, check the size of the files after the process. If the are bigger than 0 bytes, then just ignore the error. If they are 0 bytes, however, you probably needed a password. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure I've come up with a better way of handling this. I'll be working on it this week.

Pretty much every error that could occur is now displayed within Ez7z, therefore the log is now not necessary for most operations. It's still being created just not displayed, except for PAR2 repairing/verifying and when it comes across a file with a ' in it. If you still want to look at it just right-click on Ez7z in the finder and click "Show Package Contents", then "Contents", "Resources", and open "tempLog.txt". Ez7z delete's this file when you quit, so you'll have to do it while it's still open.

Try again to a different folder. Also, the dialog just goes away once it's determined the file sizes to use for the bar. The bar only shows up once that size has been affected. So there could be progress, just no changing file size (yet). Lastly, max compression takes a looong time for me at least.

Thank you. I downloaded all 5 parts, dragged the 1st part into Ez7z, clicked "Expand". This resulted in a log message that contained several sentences including... "Everything is Ok" and a new file named: movie_name.part.dvd.7z It seems like Ez7z combined all 5 parts into a single file and decompressed everything (the new file is 5.17GB in size). My question now is... what's next? How do I turn this new file into a movie file?

Thanks, again, for your quick reply. I came to the same conclusion you did: it doesn't seem to be an problem with Ez7z but rather the file itself. I just sent a memo to MovieBerry requesting support. Nice job with Ez7z. It works quite well and is fast. My only suggestion is to provide a status bar when the program is working. When I originally expanded the split archive I had no idea what was happening, nor did I have a sense of progress until the expand was complete.

I'll get working on a progress bar for expansion soon. There's one for compression already but it doesn't really work for creating split archives yet. BUT I thought of a possible solution! Go into prefrences and check if "use unRAR to expand split archives" is enabled. If it is, disable it, and re-expand the multi-part archive from the beginning.

This version seems like a nice app, but instead of having a text field where we can drag and drop a file AND can enter the file path (a.k.a. location) of a file to compress -- which is a time consuming way to do it, it would be better to have a text field where we can drag and drop a file and a BUTTON that would bring up an open dialog to find the file to compress, OR ALL 3. Otherwise, I like it and look forward to using it.

"..., but instead of having a text field where we can drag and drop a file AND can enter the file path (a.k.a. location) of a file to compress -- which is a time consuming way to do it..." It's useful to be have the ability to type in the location if you need to work with hidden files. I agree the image drop was redundant so I removed it. Also you can go to file->open file or open folder. They also have keyboard shortcuts.

I suppose I could have sent this via e-mail to check if my internet was down, though. ;) Beyond that, I'm pretty happy with the application. I agree with the previous comment of writing the last used compression to the plist, and making it default to the same folder that the files/folder the user is trying to 7zip is in. Another suggestion would be to make the file name blank by default or make it the folder being 7zipped. Anyway, thanks for the great app!
