iTunes controller for your menubar.

Overview

Barquee... Bring a whole new level of customization to your music library by putting the unused space of your menu bar to work with Barquee, a new type of iTunes controller that integrates so cleanly and beautifully with OS X, you'll wonder why it isn't standard. Barquee displays the currently playing iTunes song elegantly in your menubar along with rewind, fast-forward and play/pause buttons. Barquee is also highly themeable and lets you customize the font, color, size, transition behavior, and even assign hotkeys to common tasks.

What's new in Barquee

Version 1.2:
  • Option-click the menu bar to rate a song, command-click to change song location
  • Click the menubar to scroll the song name again
  • Full Unicode support, every song now displays exactly as in iTunes
  • A new theme format that allows any Barquee theme to work with any system theme along with advanced new visual effects
  • Documentation on how to build your own theme
  • Maximum width doubled to 800 pixels
  • New hotkeys to toggle the shuffle mode, soft mute and show iTunes
  • Help updated
  • Better support for Internet radio
  • Fixed a new version reminder bug when the computer was offline
  • Various bug fixes and memory leaks

Very cool. Works well and nicely integrated with iTunes. If you change any track info, the menu bar changes immediately. The only miniscule gripe I have is that it doesn't respond to a right click as a Control-key substitute. Otherwise, fantastic. Eagerly awating more themes.

Was about to push the button to buy this when I noticed it's PPC only? Bummer... Please update it to the 21st century! =)

It appears that the developer is no longer working on Barquee. If you click on the developer link, it shows that the domain is expired.

Is ther ANY posibility of getting this ported to the Inel mac? Its been a couple years now. Please!! Stopped working when i upgraded to intel and would prefer NOT to have any application running through rosetta.

I doubt its a Quicksilver conflict. I use launchbar, and it did the same thing for me. no update, unless i forced the next song by clicking the advance button. All and all though, i really like this controller. the only thing is the updating. otherwise ill have to stick with synergy and just delete the setting file when the "trial" expires lol.

I've been using this app for about a year, I guess, and I've been very happy with it. It's always worked well; I've never had any of the iTunes 7/track not updating problems others have reported, but it seems like a good idea to try the demo first. Though I am glad I spent the money for this app, this morning I got an alert that there was a new version available, but the developer's site is gone. It's some janky link farm. So to conclude, try this program, but buyer beware.

Actually, scratch that. While the site is online, the dev doesn't answer emails. So, yes, buyer beware, unless you're on Intel, in which case just don't bother.

This seriously needs to be updated for iTunes 7 compatibility. This was the worst 10 dollars I've ever spent... but then again I should have tested it before buying it.

Using MacIntel - Barquee does not update itself when the track changes. Is that an Intel problem? Or a conflict with Quicksilver? Otherwise it looks like just what I want.

iController can't compare to barquee. The iController interface is dull and the scroll in the menu bar is frustrating and small. Barquee has a lot more options to allow you to blend it in with your own personal computer. You have control of the scrolling space, the colors, the text (font and content), and if you are interested there is a tutorial on the Four Minute Mile website to teach you how to create your own skins. Its a very simple program, but worth the money.

I agree with inaudiblepiphany. Barquee isn't perfect, but it IS inexpensive and more feature rich than iController. I've tried them both, but it's clear you get what you pay for in this case.

I've been a big fan of Barquee ever since it came out. Anyone compares it with Synergy or any of the free controllers out there just hasn't given it a serious look. Barquee is simply the most elegant and customizable controller out there. It looks great, it does everything I want, and it does it better than anything else. This new version is just spectacular. I myself requested several of these features and although I wished it had come out earlier the developer was always very quick to respond to my questions.

Not bad, but I don't see that it's "better enough" over the free iController to be worth $10. Seems unresponsive at times, and is too obtrusive and distracting to get a home on my menubar. Deleted it after about five minutes.
