A mathematical 3D surface generator.

Overview

K3DSurf is a program to visualize and manipulate multidimensional surfaces by using Mathematical equations. It's also a "Modeler" for POV-Ray in the area of parametric and Iso surfaces.

Features:

  • 3D/4D/5D/6D HyperObjects visualization and there related Rotationals Plans (resp. : 3/6/10/15).
  • Full support of all functions (like C language).
  • Support of mouse event in the drawing area(Left:Rotate, Right:scale and Midle: translate).
  • Animation an Morph effect.
  • ScreenShoots and Movies generation.
  • Povscript and Mesh file generation(and Run if povray is installed). VRML2 and OBJ files also supported.
  • More than 100 well known examples.

What's new in K3DSurf

Version 0.6.2:
  • A new GUI interface with menus and a toolbar.
  • The ability to save a config file to store information about colors and isosurfaces resolution.
  • In Isosurface, the OpenGL viewer can go up to a height of 10MTriangles/Grid 500, export the "Minimal topology" as an .OBJ file (a new table for the Marching Cube algorithm was made from scratch), show more than one Isosurface, store/load/delete Isosurface formulas, and turn on/off the new parser for fast math calculations.
  • There are new examples, and this release can store/load parametric formulas.

Runs OK under 10.3.9. The Qt user interface is very clumsily rendered compared to Aqua interfaces. Buttons and text fields are too small and their titles cannot be fully read. Window is not resizable. Not being familiar with the Qt libraries, I have no idea how easy or difficult things like this will be to fix. As I commented for the fraqtive app, there is no need to distribute this in a .pkg format. Simply compress the folder as a .zip or other compressed format suitable for Mac OS X. One recommended alternative is to create an OS X disk image (.dmg). Then the user can install anywhere that is desired.

Hi, This package should work without any requirements, thanks to François Le Coat for building this self-sufficient package. Cheers, Taha

New features: ** Add support of 6D HyperObjects with their related Rotational Plans(15 in total). ** Add 2 new sections : Spherical and Cylindrical coordinates. ** Add support of equations Z^n = f(x,y) (with n =2,4,.. ): This is the first introduction to the drawing of "conditional" equations. Other sections of K3DSurf will be able to do the same when it's fully tested and optimised. ** Possibility to generate sets of successive frames: To use for building animations with the software of your choice. ** Add keyboard controls for the independant window: Useful when working in full screen mode. ** Grid up to 100x100 ** Almost 30 new examples: Cube, Prism... Enjoy ;-)

I'm the new maintainer of the Mac version and I've done some changes to improve k3dsurf on the Mac : * the interface has been reworked to be less grey and so that captions are all readable * the installation process now involves drag&drop from a disk image instead of a .pkg

Hi, K3DSurf is now update(version 0.5). New Features : ** Add support of 4D Rotational Transformations(6 Rotational Plans in total): Theses transformations are the most important for visualizing the 4D HyperObjects. ** The GUI : 1)You can use K3DSurf in FULL SCREEN mode or in a prefered size mode (Max 1600x1200). The independant window has the same capability. 2) The GUI was revisited and is now 15% larger than before. Right now, only the source code is available for Mac users. If you compiled the latest version 0.5, please leave a message. I need some screenshots to see if all things OK in the GUI. I can then accomodate the source code for better interface in Mac. Thanks to all of you who give their votes and suggestions. Enjoy ;-) A. Taha

Hi, My name is Taha and I'm the developer of k3DSurf. I just discovered that a Mac version of K3DSurf was made. I'm really pleased of that and I want to thank you for making it disponible for Mac users. The screenshots shows effectively that there are problems with buttons, unfortunately, I don't have a Mac machine to fix that. I can tell you that it's easely done (less than 15 min with QT designer). Windows version (I just submited it today) was far more complicated because of the multithreading restrictions under windows. I'll tray to fix that soon. Sincerely, Abderrahman Taha
