Widget displays contact list for Adium.

Overview

AdiumList is designed to be a space-saving alternative to the main Adium contact list.

Buddy lists are one of those necessary evils of computing, because you don't need another window cluttering up your desktop. So what's the solution? Stick it in the dashboard! By using our AdiumList widget to display your contacts, you can have the benefit of using the best instant messaging client available for Macs and reclaim your lost screen space. It's win-win!

Known Limitations:

  • Sometimes incorrectly reports your status (waiting for an AdiumX bug fix)
  • Can not yet set your status

This widget is freeware, although donations to keep me in bandwidth are much appreciated. You can do this through the widget homepage.

What's new in AdiumList

Version 1.0:
  • First non-beta release!
  • Now displays status correctly
  • Can set you global status
  • Spinner animation shows when updating

Very cool idea for someone with a smaller screen (12" powerbook). Still needs some work though. Can't wait to see what is next!

This widget is exactly what I wanted for Adium, especially if Adium can allow log in to accounts without opening the app like ichat does. Regardless, it makes a lot of sense that someone would rather have a widget that they can easily hide rather than a desktop window. Furthermore, who said that they cannot work together anyway, it's not neccesarily a replacement. I don't understand the negative reviews. It just needs to be developed more.

Good idea. Might work, but it needs to have the same functionality as the contact list. I guess the design is ok for me. I like the dashboard scrollbars... :)

It's a neat widget, does what it says. The design is a little campy though, I hate that duck, and it just takes up space on the widget. Wouldn't mind seeing something more along the line of some of the transparent contact list styles.

In the next release, I'll make the duck a seperate layer in the CSS so that you can hide it easily. If you do come back to read this, can you link to a couple of pics of the "transparent contact lists" you mention please? (send to widgets [at] menial [dot] co [dot] uk).

The point is that I don't like having my Adium contact list on the desktop all the time, but I do want it easily accessible. Hence this widget. This took a lot of work to make and a fair bit of my time. Some people will use it. If you don't like it, don't post. Easy.

Um, "if you don't like it don't post"? I love you guy's apps but this is a review/comment board. That was a comment. Don't be so whiny.

Undoubtedly not every user will be in the target audience for every application. So if you don't like an application not for it's pitfalls or poor implementation, but because you simply don't have a place for it on your system, then your opinion helps nobody. Its unnessesary to voice that you don't fall into the target usergroup of an application. So he's perfectly right in saying that if you don't see the need to use an application, then you should just keep it to yourself. If you have an opinion on the application that might be useful to users who want to try it out, then by all means, go for it. No one is going to decide they don't want to use an application because you said it wasn't going to be useful *TO YOU*. So in essence what you said was just completely worthless. MacUpdate needs to start cutting down on these types of comments because they truly are a waste of space.

I think some people don't really know what widgets are, or are for. They aren't to replace already existing applications. This really ads no function that the original does. Actually less. Redundant.

Jack, this widget does not replace the app and adds no new features. It replaces a very small portion of it by putting your contact list somewhere out of the way. Besides, I made this widget as something that was useful to me, and had been requested by members of the Adium forum. It got submitted to this site in order to make it available to a wider audience. I don't charge for it, and you don't have to use it. Improvements will be made and they *will* be posted here whether or not a few people don't like it.
