A widget for advanced system monitoring.

Overview

iStat nano is an advanced system monitor in a tiny package. View detailed information on CPU, memory, hard drives, IP and external IP, bandwidth, CPU temperatures, fan speeds, battery, uptime and the top four processes. iStat nano features the lowest CPU usage of any stats widget we've seen (compare it if you don't believe us, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised!).

What's new in iStat nano

Version 2.2:
  • Temperature monitoring for S.M.A.R.T capable hard drives (1 drive only)
  • Improved fan monitoring support for iBooks and PowerBooks
  • Improved 10.5 support

a nice widget and better with age but it has one problem and a small bit of weirdness, problem: it doesn't register the temp of my G4 cpus. which many other similar apps do. the weirdness: its total memory used seems a bit incongruous with other memory-usage utils. ie: it ignores the used-but-inactive mem when adding up total used mem. not really a problem but makes result different when comparing with other utils. i suppose its a matter of opinion...

A#1. Love this even though I do not care for Widgets. I have a lot of other programs that monitor specific functions on my computer but this does it all in one package. Now I'm contemplating getting rid of the others. Thanks to the developer for a great application!

While the new interface is very much apreciated, there seems to be a bug in the preference pane when you use the widget in the Amnesty Widget Browser insteada of the dock: It won't resize properly, so you can't hit the "Done" button anymore. Maybe it's a limitation in Amnesty but other widgets' backsides are resizing properly. Apart from that, it's really nice!

Love this widget, but version 1.7 seems to have major bug. On DUAL 2.3GHz G5, the process "tab" always shows the info of a different tab. Doesn't seem to be a pattern as to which tab it chooose.

A well-packaged set of tools for viewing a nice load of information about what your computer is currently doing. I mainly use it to see how much of my CPU certain programs are eating up, but it also displays other information on memory, disks, networks and more. I can't view anything in the temperature tab, but that's the only flaw I've run into.

Just like to point out the temperature monitors still doesn't update on my 1.67Ghz Powerbook G4 15" (HiRes). Only when I launch the Temperature Monitor widget does the temperature update.

Apart from a few missing things which I'm sure will be fixed in future releases (see previous comments), this a nice update. I really like the revamped interface :D Thank you once again for this sweet widget :) (You get 4 on features for the missing top processes and 4 on stability for the non function external IP)

It seems as though "Sys Stat" has "left the building". Whenever I enable network stats in Sys Stat I get a big "This Account Has Been Suspended? message where my External IP address used to be. When I go to the developers web site it also tells me that the account has been suspended. I have checked with my ISP and it is not them. I suspect that the developers site that supports this Widget has been closed for some reason and the Widget is reflecting this fact. All other functions seem to be ok for now. Just go to the Widget's prefs and uncheck "Network" to get rid of the message. Hopefully the developer will fix this soon. It is a great little tool and I would hate to see it go away.

I love this widget. Have used it for quite some time, but I'm having a problem with it at present. After I installed TWC's radar in motion widget, I can't get anything below 'your IP address' to even show up. It's all blank or has messed up links. I've repaired permissions, installed a 1.0.1 version, deleted, reinstalled, etc. No luck. It's broken at this point. I have no idea why. This is one of the most useful widgets in existence, a true gem, and I hope to keep it around, but for now, I'm removing it, as it doesn't appear to function properly for some reason I can't explain. Anyone have any ideas why? Experience similar problems? Thanks much in advance for any input.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, I have spoken to the author about providing more version tracking info and he said that he would do it so calm down. Next. Yes he does drop quite a few upgrades on us, but to say, "don't download them" is idiotic as we would naturally like to have the most up to date version. Finally, this is a handy app. Is it a killer app/widget, probably not, but is the author thanked for providing it for free of charge? He is by me.

"I'm just amazed - we have a great program, it's free, the developer is responsive (try writing to him instead of posting on MacUpdate), and all some people can do is complain... Ugh. (5/29/2005, Version: 1.0)" Asking the update version numbers to be properly coded in isn't asking that much, or complaining. What the other guy said is correct. There are about 3 widgets this guy has, all of them somewhat similar, and since they are upated so frequently, it is hard to keep track.

If you don't like the pace of updates, then don't download them! I'm very grateful for them, as several features I requested were available within a day. I'm just amazed - we have a great program, it's free, the developer is responsive (try writing to him instead of posting on MacUpdate), and all some people can do is complain... Ugh.

Nice widget but the author releases about a million a week, no idea which version it is. This one says 1.0, but if you check it using Widget Manager, it says, .99. This is to the point of annoyance because it is almost impossible to get the right info about the widgets. Please, please, please provide better info. Is that too much to ask? I gave 5 stars for the widget but zero stars for the info the author provides.

I have been alerted to the uptime bug. i believe that it will be wrong if your system has been up for "1 day....." if its more then 1 day or less it should be fine. ill release an update in a few hours to fix it. There will be a major update soon with hard drive stats aswell

Ditto the comment below this one. The Uptime entry does not appear to be accurate, and it doesn't always load. Otherwise, I gladly added this widget to my Dashboard, and removed the other one.

This _shames_ the not-free widget that attempts to perform a similar task. The interface is nice. I've replaced NetStat with it, and probably my uptime widget as well. And it doesn't seem to crush the hell out of my processor the same way the not-free widget did. It runs high, but not as bad. And hasn't crashed in ten minutes of use, which the not-free one did. Every opening of the Dashboard and kablooey! Thanks.

cool. just DL'ed and worked right off the bat in Dashboard, in Tiger on a PM dualG5. Refresh rate seems to be around seven seconds which could be improved but a good alternative to the CeePeeYou menubar item I used with Panther. Thanks!

I'm using the Amnesty Widget Browser to run Widgets under 10.3.9, since I'm waiting on 10.4.1 before upgrading to tiger. The amusing thing about this widget is that when it's running it shows AWB's CPU usage as running between 30% and 60%. And other Widgets, even trivial ones, all seem to have the same problem. Now I don't know if this is a problem with Webcore, with Panther, or with AWB. Danny at Mesadynamic said that Dashboard was a bit more efficient, which surprised me because the Widgets I'm looking at just don't do all that much. If Dashboard uses anything more than a couple of percent of the CPU when running trivial widgets, there's something wrong with it. If someone running the real Dashboard could try this out on something comparable to my Mac mini, I'd like to know whether this is another reason to hold off on Tiger or a reason to run out and upgrade...

Cool. Thanks. One thing I noticed is that the process name of truncated such that all dashboard clients show up as "DashboardClient" which of course is not that useful. There could be an interval adjustment setting as well.

Thanks so much iSlayer! But it would be great if you could make the font a bit bigger because, the stats are not very clearly readable. And maybe you could implement a physical space free of the drives ? Thanks again !! ; )

Awesome, prolly the most useful widget around! Like if the NetStat widget wasn't enough ;) I like it a lot, only wish it would refresh faster, but I guess that's not the developer's fault. Only small bug, if you have multiple network cards it seams like it's missing a line break betwen them. A simple edit (adding a around line 202) will fix this, but maybe not everyone knows how!
