Well, shoot. This is the whole thing about the Mac App Store... stuff starts to become available ONLY that way... Apple gets more and more of a monopoly, thus can dictate the market... I'm not going to pay full price for an update I don't know is significant just to be tied into the MAS scheme! This is B.S.

Well, I've just tried it and I think the price is a joke! So little features for 30$? Not even label colors for the collections! I'm sticking to iNotepad (which has become free in the meantime ;-) even if the interface is not as stylish, or rather pay 45$ for Scrivener who does a looooot more.

Where could I find a copy of v. 1 of MyNotes. I do not use this app frequently. I recently upgraded to v. 2, but didn't use it after that. And today, I realize that I had some notes in v. 1, that I had not exported in order to be able to import them into v. 2. Not a lot of notes, but still some useful notes. If somebody could direct me to a copy of v. 1 that I could download, this would be much appreciated - since there seems to be no way to contact support...

After installing the December 2011 update, this program was totally broken - all previous entries lost. I used Time Machine to save the day, but although I offered to help troubleshoot the issue, the dev never responded. This week, I tried to contact him one last time re: any potential update for Mountain Lion. But the Mishimo website is down, and e-mail gets bounced back undelivered. Bummer. This was a nice little program.

And if anyone's reading this and takes pity on me, the thing I'll miss MOST about MyNotes is the manual ordering of notes within a group or folder. Nobody else does this. Not Evernote, SoHo Notes, Devon Note... Nobody. But MyNotes ALWAYS did. Most programs offer the options of sorting by creation date, by edit date, or by title (alphabetically), but don't allow true ordering capability. A simple example - I have a group of notes titled WEEKLY, and there are 7 notes in that group - Sunday, Monday, etc. But in Evernote (for example) I cannot arrange the days-of-the-week notes in order - I'm locked into sorting options that don't apply. So... is there any other note organizing program that actually allows you to ORGANIZE your notes?

Over on the DevonNote page, Macupdate user OldMiller really saved my bacon by pointing out that DevonNote allows manual sorting of folders and notes within them. This was news to me (as the options were not obvious on previous demos of that software.) I'm now a very content DevonThink Personal User. But why doesn't Evernote allow the same functionality?!

This is an excellent product and I am fine with paying another $30 to update after several years ownership. My only wish is that it synced between devices, but the developer is working on that, according to the website. I use this app every day and it saves hours a week. Well worth the modest fee.

For all the whiners about the Mac App Store... It has nothing to do with Apple becoming a "monopoly". No developer is forced to distribute through the App Store. They choose to do so. Why do they choose to do so? For the simple reason that they actually can make a living now because more people are exposed to their applications and sales increase. They can now make a fair living through their efforts sold through the App Store, and they can spend more time on development and less on administration and paperwork. Yet here are people sobbing because they don't get a discount on a $30 app. It's a $30 app, not $300. A developer can spend hundreds of hours delivering a new release, but at low traditional-shareware fees their efforts are reimbursed at below minimum wage. The app store better rewards developers who provide quality products like myNotes. Spend less at Starbucks for a couple of days and support small, independent developers.

I have had this program for some time. Very nice and useful. However as I paid for it once I was expecting a discount with this next upgrade. Imagine my surprise to hear from the developer that I had to purchase it again at full price. This a new angle to me. Guess I will be looking for other software to do this job once my present version no longer works.

Rpitcairn: We live in a new era. The MAS has made it impossible to get discounts or demos. Honestly, I've seriously started thinking about switching to Windoze or Linux. I've been with Apple products since 1987, but I don't like these recent approaches.

I agree, it has changed. I probably like many others made some regretted purchases at the app store and learned my lesson. Now I am not buying anything unless I can demo it first. I think developers are learning this too and I see more options of trying and THEN buying in the Apple store.

With regard to myNotes, I can accept that it's a major upgrade and such. However, it would be nice to have a better sense of what makes this upgrade "major." All MacUpdate says is "new features" and Lion support. I don't think it should be the customer's job to figure out what's new, and I especially don't think I should have to fork out $30 just to see if what's new is really "major" to me or not.

I am adding to this to let everyone know that I lost ALL my notes and data of the last several years. The app will no longer open my datafile even though the data still in it. I have tried all the fixes I can think of and there is no other problem with other apps or functions. I have emailed the developer twice begging for help in getting this data back and there is NO response and it has been some weeks now.

UPDATE to my previous post: Even though I used to use a tree up to 3 levels deep, I've found a way to reorganize my notes to where this is no longer necessary. So the current way myNotes works is pretty cool, I just needed to rethink how I did a few things. After paying for and using it every day for awhile now, I've found only one main thing I would improve: Often when pasting text from somewhere else into myNotes, it has this annoying habbit of maintaining formatting, causing me to have to go to Edit->Paste And Match Style ... it would be nice if I could set in config to ALWAYS match current style. Other than that, wonderful software I use every day. I just hope the data is super-stable and secure, as well as easy to back up?

I created a similar program for PC, so when I switched to Mac I needed to find something new to replace it. Well, this program would be PERFECT if it could go just 1 level deeper. If notes could have "sub notes" or something, that would be ideal. My old program worked on the basis of a tree and any node on the tree could contain its own notes (just click on the node and type in the pane on the right) or any of its sub nodes could also be notes. You could go as deep on the tree as you wanted, but I found that I never personally went any more than 3 levels deep. So I'm just saying that if you added one more level, it would be perfect.

One of the best Notes Manager. The search feature is amazing fast. Very stable product. Its one of the products which I would use daily. It would have been best if developer could provide menubar search interface. I know spotlight can be used for searches but it searches everywhere. Instead it would be best if we have myNotes specific search bar in menu. I would appreciate developers response on this feature request.

My initial impression of this app is very positive. Does anyone know how to move a MyNotes file from one Mac to another? I sent this inquiry to the developer, but have not heard back from him. I think this will be a convinient sofware for students; especially those who are in universities and colleges. You can sync your notes into your iPod very quickly, you can print, and the best thing is that you can organise it neatly even if you are not the type who organises regularly. The display showing on the right bottom corner is very stylish and nice. The features in it are just great for students. You can record a speech, you can do a spell check, you can change the font .. etc. You can download it very quickly, and it is just VERY simplistic and easy to use, but maybe the design of the software itself is too simple? Well thats why it probably has the background feature to it..but, if there is a more stylish design to it, more people will probably start to use this. It was my first time seeing a software that allows the users to take notes ... Good features, make this software very convinient!!!

Fun and easy single database notebook for keeping all your text snippets and ideas in one place. Easy export of all files and folders. Import is per folder only. Very nicely designed with the idea of keeping it simple and pleasing to the eyes. I've tried many notebook apps, and this one is a keeper! You just instantly get it! And the automatic naming of new files is awesome. I think many developers can learn from this developer on how to make a very user friendly app with an interface that doesn't distract. Great concept + good aesthetic sense = Mac at its best!

This app is beautiful! I have bought other notepads in the past, but this one is so well-thought out in its design. I don't want to launch a huge program for little notes and clips as I go about my day, and that is why this one is so great... it is quick to launch, light in weight, and unobtrusive. Although there are other notepads that aren't like Microsoft Word in size, they just feel too big to keep running for note taking, but this one is perfect. I love how easily and accurately it displays a PDF or simple text document dragged into its window, images and all. A feature I would like to see implemented is "A Group within a Group" feature. RIght now, a Group functions as a folder (database category). I would like to have categories within that group; let's say, for example, a Group called "Software" and then further categorize it into types, like "Graphics", "Utilities", etc. all within the Group named "Software", so that the groups and content can be organized as well as the notes. That way the list won't be so long and it will be very concise as to what notes I am looking for. Very nice job, Mishimo! And I love your artistic touches, inspiration, etc.

to developer: iNotePad is the one to beat, #2 is iOrganize. Z-Write was wonderful on OS9, not so great on OSX (RealBasic i think) you must have global search. that is why iNotePad is #1; i like the GUI of iOrganize a bit better though (categories across the top, notes in the sidebar) (although the very best would be to also have drop-down menu to select notes from the category buttons, this way you can hide the sidebar unless creating a new note) you must allow to re-order notes manually. keep it simple! Jotz was the worst victim of cruft - it started out really good. maximum area for writing, least amount of distractions from icons, note titles, etc. good luck, it looks nice already! :) (well...and also allow non-metal/Aqua option for GUI pleace :)

Click on another note and it will again highlight and scroll. Highlight color might be gray and hard to notice if you're in Notes column, in that case then just hit ctrl+tab to switch to your note body and you'll see the highlighted word. Then use command+G to go to the next match (if there is one). Hope this helps :)

You know, I like the column interface for notes. But nobody does it right, I almost feel like I need to learn software programming to create my own software. The biggest pain in the butt with these note type thingie's is that the three pane window is restrictive, why can't I add more columns, with each node being available to be commented on in the notes area. Simple, but nobody else seems to need that. Think omni outliner in column mode, with the note section always exposed. MyNotes is so much more elegant than say Idea knot but lacks in features, which is ok. It is fast, responsive, have not pushed to the extremes but till now I have faced no problems. The biggest problem, right now, that I have from not using it daily is the save option or the lack of it. You can only have one note which I find ridiculous. In ideaknot, I have several lists for several things. A multiple note option is a must. But overall, this program is neat, I would love to store my notes here because the interface feels right in terms of its looks. But please break the three-column trap, let the user have more than one note to work with, and embrace OPML.
