I have read the guidelines, and there doesn't seem to be anything that glares. The keyword there was EXCESSIVE, (Like bold print). The URL link is not excessive, at least for me.

If you look at the widgets that were provided by Apple you will notice none show an advertisement on the front of the widget. One exception would be the small logo on the Yellow Pages widget, but that is merely to represent what service it searches. Now, I don't mean everyone has to design like Apple, but widgets do feel more at home that way. Apple's developers and designers created the guidelines for a purpose, and I believe a widget looks more professional if it follows them.
