Wow, very very awesome widget. Looks great and handles the web pages really nicely. It might be nice if you made the "wikipedia.org" button more distinguishable to be a button that opens the current searched word in a new page. (At the moment it just looks like it opens the home Wiki page)

Yea, the dev forgot to update the info.plist, but only updated the version # in the version.plist. DOH.

Doesn't seem to work properly anymore under 10.5.6 - links become inactive on pages followed from the original link, back-tabbing replaces asterisks with letters and the links fail. Shame really as I used this thing dozens of time a day for quick searches and it's the only one there is.

it's not Mac OS X, it's Wikipedia itself, I'm having the same problem in 10.4.11

Previous version failed with the Safari 3 Beta and 0.9.2 won't work either. Just have the blue box, no input box, no information "i" etc. I've completely removed the previous version, plists and so on. (Great little widget, use it a lot.)

I'm so glad someone made this widget. Now that I have this in my Dashboard, I very rarely visit Wikipedia in my browser. Generally, my encyclopedia searches are for fairly quick information regarding questions I find in my usual Web searches, so keeping this in a nice little widget, separate from my regular Web browsing, is great. It's even more useful for my less computer-savvy relatives, who don't know what Wikipedia is. I've installed it on at least three other computers, and they're enjoying it too.

I am a widget developer myself and I must say I am VERY impressed with this widget. Works exactly as you would think it would and everything is in the right place. Even nice subtle touches like when the widget is collapsed and you flip it over, it first resizes to teh correct size and THEN flips over. This way you don't have a small front and a large back, which makes no sense. Overall, awesome!

Scrolling is VERY choppy on large documents and I'd rather not have to resize the window to get around this. Scroll arrows would really help.

Yes, scrolling is choppy with PowerBook two-finger scrolling. Seems to vary between extremely slow and too fast. Using arrow keys is fine. Scroll arrows might solve it, but as we can use arrow keys, I'd say it isn't the answer. (Maybe as an option, though?) Please look into the scrolling smoothness problem first. Lovely widget.

I don't know that the scrolling smoothness (well, lack thereof) issue is fixable. I'll look into optimizing the apple code that's behind it, but I think the sheer amount of text being repositioned is too much for the javascript engine. I'm open to suggestions, of course. Unfortunately, the time I have to hobby code has diminished significantly with the arrival of the academic year, so updates will be sparse for a while.

Great job done here. Arabic pages doesn't display at all. I think adding the languages as a drop down menu would be good. If you need help in the UI design email me on yousuf.omar[at]gmail[dot]com Yousuf

while i love this widget it has stopped working for me-- i don't think it is a firewall issue though. little snitch tells me it tries to connect to perfora.net on startup now instead of 207.142.131.213 (wikimedia foundation), i trust the developer so that isn't a problem, the problem is that when i tell little snitch to let wikipedia widget connect once i never hear from it again. what i am saying is thatentering a search doesn't yield any other alerts which makes me think that it isn't even trying to connect. are others experiencing these sorts of problems? i really hope this gets fixed because i really like it a lot.

Maybe this won't help, but we never know. I know for sure that perfora.net are the servers from 1and1 hosting. A small traceroute will show you that the developer's host is indeed 1and1 (well perfora). So it apparently *does* call home. But I just did the test, deleted all wikipedia widget's rules from Little Snitch and performed a search, all it tried to contact were wikipedia's server so I don't see where you saw it call home.

The "call home" is just a simple version check, it reads this page: http://www.whatsinthehouse.com/widgets/wikiVersion.php and compares the text from there with the local version.plist file. Of course, absolutely nothing is collected. Everyone is more than welcome to look through the source code (ctrl-click on the .wdgt file and Show Package Contents) if you would like more information on how it works. Proxy server support was fixed in version 0.8.5

Doesn't work behind our firewall even though I have Authoxy re-routing HTTP and FTP requests to the real proxy server and handling authentication stuff. Must use a special port or something. Other widgets that use the Internet are working fine behind the same firewall.
