USE EXTREME CAUTION when installing this update!!! It has been known to cause drives to fail. This installer has been pulled from the Apple website. What about the DVR 111D in a G3B&W running 10.2.8 Jaguar?

Easiest way to find out whether you need the update is to run it. If your drive does need it, then the alteration will proceed. Apple seems to limit applicability to certain eMacs and G5s. To check whether update really worked, use System Profiler-> Hdw/ATA -> code should be CO3D. (It's a lot easier than using Apples's method.) Installed easily on G5/single 1.8 GHz/ 1.3 GB RAM

Can somebody with one of the G5s mentioned tell me what SuperDrive this is updating? Is it the Pioneer DVR-109? Can't seem to find any sites specifying what specific vendor drive this firmware is for... Apple is so misleading when it comes out with these updates. They should just specify which brand of product they are updating and make it universal. There are a lot of us who have installed various Pioneer branded products into our macs who would like current firmware updates that work with our macs. Personally, I have three Pioneer drives (DVR-105, DVR-107D, DVR-109BK), all of which are not original drives. I've been able to flash the first two with the current Pioneer PC firmware using a third-party flashing utility (thanks Las Vegas), but no update has been available for the DVR-109 as of this writing. Just thought this firmware may be the one I'm looking for. However, knowing Apple, it probably won't run unless the drive is actually installed in a G5 or eMac.
