Charging $5.95 for a previously FREE piece of software is outrageous! Only reason they are charging for it now, is MicroSHAFT is no longer hosting it. While I love the simplicity of the software, I will NOT be paying (Nor will I point my clients to pay) for this. It is flat out robbery. I would be willing to pay if it were under $2.00 for the player, but $6 is WAY too much. Use the link below to get the archived FREE version, or look other places for FREE software that does the SAME THING! Perian, and other software is STILL FREE. You are greedy money grubbing slimeballs, Telestream for wanting to charge $6 for this!

I discarded this product when they started charging for it. I have not had any issues since then. Either I have other apps/tools that take the place of it or it simply is not necessary. A do have installed most of the tools listed in "Similar Software", which are free. Base on this experience I personally have no need to ever install this product in the forseeable future.

I just wonder when this might be updated for...er... Lion. It now looks like and plays like a fossil from Snow Leopard. VLC is faster than this.

Falsely advertises that the "PRO" version can convert HD footage to WMV. To get that you have to spend AN additional £70 (Roughly 100 USD) DO NOT BUY. THEY WILL JUST NICKEL AND DIME YOU FOR FEATURES

Worthless p.o.s.! I finally decided to buy this to be able to play .wmv files, but on more than half of the files it throws an error message "The application attempted to use an unsupported feature". When I googled this message it turned out that the Mac version of their player does not support DRM (the windows version does support this). They don't tell you that on their website, but rather take your money and then let you find out for your self.

Wasn't Flip4Mac originally a QuickTime plugin? I can’t see any point in a paid stand-alone player when MPlayerX and VLC are free and work very, very well…

Hello. I am not very tech savvy, and when my Macbook 10.6.8 told me I needed to update my Flip4Mac to a newer version so I could watch a wmv file that I downloaded, I upgraded to this player. But still it tells me that "The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands." I changed the file to make sure it opens in Flip4Mac and still it does not open. Am I doing something wrong here? If anyone could offer me help or advice I would appreciate it. Do I need to buy the Pro version to run this file on such an old (but updated to Snow Leopard) system?

To my knowledge version 3.3.1.3 is the last free version of the plug-in and preference pane. That is the version I am running successfully on Yosemite. I suspect that version 3.2.1 would also work and you still see it available download here and there (probably risky by now). I don't fault Telestream for trying to make a buck from an app they purchased fair and square and which they still develop to some extent even if it is silly: 10.6.8 support added in 12/2014? Really?

Eventually, something will break and I might shell out for the update if I still find that I need to play wma and wmv files. I actually tried to buy the Pro version some time ago to convert some MOV files that contained WMV content but there was something my system did not like and could not get it working.

This was a useful, but somewhat abandoned free utility. Now, with no new features, you must pay $5 to use it. The last free versions is 3.2.1 and is here: http://www.telestream.net/flip-player/download.htm Turn off all upgrade notices in the control panel, or it will try to force you to buy the $5 upgrade that adds nothing to your experience.

OK I downloaded the Free Download at http://www.telestream.net/flip-player/download.htm and it worked!!! Hooray! I am happy because I am a Rogue Amoeba Nut and I have been a long time user of RadioShift whichI enjoy as it has a lot of Jazz. Well I could never get the plug in for WMV and it downloaded it immediately and installed right away. I am now a happy camper. It is true they buried it but they uncovered it here. 5 Stars for a Free (like in Beer) application

Sad that the company feels they need charge $6 for something that has been free all these years. I did like and use the plugin all the time for converting WMVs in a web browser. I did find a workaround with another FREE program and plugin that works just fine. If you download the latest version of VLC Media Player available at VideoLAN's website: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html You can then use the VLC Web Plugin 2.2 beta which you can download from their nightlies site at: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/?C=M;O=D ALL FOR FREE! YAY!!! From what I read once VLC 2.2 is out which should be shortly if their VLC Web Plugin beta is in their nightly builds we should be seeing the final 2.2 version of the VLC Web Plugin soon. If it's true that Microsoft is no longer underwriting the free version, I don't think it's unreasonable for Telestream to charge for it now. For those who think it is, when was the last time you did any useful work for nothing? You are, of course, free to not pay for the updates and to use another tool - or the last free version of the Flip4Mac player - as you see fit. But bad-mouthing the developer for wanting to be paid for his work is mean-spirited and wrong-headed. As for money-grubbing, like I said, when was the last time you did any significant work for free? If you are, like most people,, paid for your work, then you are describing yourself when you accuse Telestream of money-grubbing. Get a clue. As for Perian, support for that was dropped years ago, probably because developing a free program was unsustainable. As for others, like VLC, that remain available at no cost, the developer no doubt has alternate means of paying the bills - means not available to everyone.

I was refreshing my video collection this last week and one of the jobs was to get rid of my .mov files and convert them to .mp4. It turns out that the innards of most of the .mov files I have contain WMV and WMA codecs. I think Flip$Mac is the only company presently supporting these formats on the Mac. Is that correct? Also, in using third party apps such as VisualHub and iSquint it appears that they use the Flip$Mac engine to make the files conversions. Unless the "Pro" version of Flip$Mac is present then audio "watermarks" are sprinkled throughout the file. I guess I have no strong objection to the idea of buying that Pro version; however I have just a few of these .mov files and otherwise have had Flip$Mac gone from my machine for several months. I have tried Handbrake, iFFMPEG, VLC, Mplayer, MplayerX and several others. iSkysoft offers an app which reportedly converts these files. Anyone know of other free or inexpensive applications that might get me through for a few files? All bits o' wisdom are very welcome!

More a comment on Apple. Why do I need this 3rd party product to view/hear Windoze media in Quicktime Player when I can Quicklook the files successfully in the Finder? Obvious the Mac OS has a codec for Windows Media built in so why doesn't Quicktime Player just use that?! The less extra stuff installed the better. (I'm using Mountain Lion BTW)

Let me make this simple: The difference between the standalone player and the suite is that the standalone player is portable. Instead of the Flip4Mac plugin and framework being installed under /Library, it's contained within the app. So, you can run Flip Player from a USB drive on another machine, without installing anything. You can copy Flip Player to another machine using drag and drop, no installer needed. I agree with everyone else though, that giving the standalone player a different version number is stupid and confusing.

The developer no doubt has his reasons for separating Flp4Mac and Flip4Mac Player, but I don't know if the confusion this change creates is worth the trouble to the user.

Disappointed to see that Esellerate - despite all of its historically privacy-invasive practices and how it cheats its customers & affiliates - is _still_ being used to not only upgrade this product but also monitor basic installation of the "free" player. Telestream - you can't find another, more end-user focused ecommerce provider? Or is it that you don't want to? See: Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/Resources/EWSMac-GC.framework

The new Flip Player is very buggy on a multi-monitor setup. The window wont play in anything other than the main monitor, and when dragging from one window to another the player window will lose its position (though the controls will not, meaning that you have to quit the app and start over), trying to "fit to screen" is even worse. I have had to revert back to Quicktime to play these moves even with the annoying watermark. It was also very slow to respond with more than one window open and cached commands so if you pushed a command more than once when it eventually caught up it repeated it in succession. The player does have promise and potential, though -- the keyboard shortcuts are great, but it just does not work at all with more than one monitor (I have a 6 monitor setup and a 4 monitor setup and saw the behavior with both running Mac OS 10.7 and both Mac Pro 2009 with 32GB of memory and 2xQuad 2.26) Seems like a v 1.0 player -- conversion codec works faster for sure, but that isn't helpful if you want to actually play your files on a different screen.

Before installing Flip Player 3.0.0.143, I uninstalled Flip4Mac 3.0.0.126. Of note, is that the new Flip Player does not install the Preference Pane or the Internet Plug in, as was the case with Flip4Mac version. So, are these two components needed or not? FWIW, in my limited testing, it seems to me that they are not. Well see…
