More a comment on Apple. Why do I need this 3rd party product to view/hear Windoze media in Quicktime Player when I can Quicklook the files successfully in the Finder? Obvious the Mac OS has a codec for Windows Media built in so why doesn't Quicktime Player just use that?! The less extra stuff installed the better.
(I'm using Mountain Lion BTW)

I've had problems with this app for years. I've written emails to the developers. They seem concerned and ask for information to help solve the problem. Then never get back to me again.

I do not recommend this product.

For those concerned, this version is compatible with OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Or rather, the Mavericks GM hasn't complained about it yet. ;-) Older versions, Mavericks does not like.

FYI,

1. VLC development is managed in France and outside US software patent regulations.
2. This may change soon: http://www.videolan.org/press/patents.html
3. It's the user's responsibility to cover patent royalties when using VLC in the US and other related countries: http://wiki.videolan.org/Intellectual_Properties
4. Windows Media VC-1 royalties are explained here: http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/VC1/Documents/vc1web.pdf (those are not required when using Flip4Mac)

My case number is 1-246173. But if you want a look at the crash log - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1423464/Flip4Mac%20Crash%20Log.rtf

If Flip4Mac doesn't crash after playing a video it won't play a video at all with the error code https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1423464/Safari001.png

I figured out the serial number thing.

Disappointed to see that Esellerate - despite all of its historically privacy-invasive practices and how it cheats its customers & affiliates - is _still_ being used to not only upgrade this product but also monitor basic installation of the "free" player.

Telestream - you can't find another, more end-user focused ecommerce provider? Or is it that you don't want to?

The new Flip Player is very buggy on a multi-monitor setup. The window wont play in anything other than the main monitor, and when dragging from one window to another the player window will lose its position (though the controls will not, meaning that you have to quit the app and start over), trying to "fit to screen" is even worse. I have had to revert back to Quicktime to play these moves even with the annoying watermark.

It was also very slow to respond with more than one window open and cached commands so if you pushed a command more than once when it eventually caught up it repeated it in succession.

The player does have promise and potential, though -- the keyboard shortcuts are great, but it just does not work at all with more than one monitor (I have a 6 monitor setup and a 4 monitor setup and saw the behavior with both running Mac OS 10.7 and both Mac Pro 2009 with 32GB of memory and 2xQuad 2.26)

Seems like a v 1.0 player -- conversion codec works faster for sure, but that isn't helpful if you want to actually play your files on a different screen.

I hadn't updated in a while, so I updated my G5 to this latest version. There is no longer an option to load the WMV before playing, and whether or not I'm playing the WMV as it's loading, it takes much, much longer to load now, like 10x longer at least (it seems like, the larger the file, the slower it loads). I need to see if I can re-install the older version.

Well, I've tried all the usual voodoo with no luck. This is the only issue I have with my well-maintained system. I am tempted to just open the packages and put all the bits where they are supposed to go. However, that method would not leave a receipt behind so permissions could not be corrected if they were wrong. Installer problem seems to occur regardless of user account under which it is run, so something is likely amiss in the Library or System folders. I am not having problems with the older version and just installed this latest one on a Snow Leopard installation that I am building from scratch on an external hard drive. In general it has become really hard to recreate a new system from scratch, remembering the settings, getting the printers installed, etc.

There is a bug in the installer. If your account is Filevaulted, the installer squawks that it can't find a needed disk. It then sits there patiently waiting, but there is nothing you can do and it won't let you quit normally, so you need to force quit the installer application.

The error I'm seeing...

Please insert the "xyz" disc to continue installation.
You have chosen to install software that requires this disc.

Moving the installer package out of the FileVault volume is a workaround described in this Knowledgebase article.

I've never seen an installer behave like that, but the workaround did the trick..... silly me, for not taking an hour or so, to search the knowledgebase for a problem that shouldn't have occurred in the first place.

But, I do appreciate the response. Thank you!

If one uses Apple's standard installer, it is his job to "workaround" some issue (!) which is in fact the built in functionality of OS X since 10.3 or .4.

No need to apologize, they should care about such issues more than sneaking silverlight and remotely pulling images from MS servers in success screens.
