It was useful, stable and had a clean interface. I loved it and used it daily until it stopped working. Please release the code to open source developers! I miss it. :-(

There used to be a competing knockoff app; does anybody remember its name?

At the time it was totally ignored, but maybe its time has now come?

I e-mailed the developer and asked whether he'd consider open-sourceing Sidenote and was ignored.

Sad! :(

That'sNot the original developer but the new one that bought the append his app is substandard. It is a real shame that we can't get this app on ML.

The Macupdate download link goes to a 404 error page, but if you go to the developers page, and move down to the bottom of the page, you can find a download link to the last version that he developed. Nice of him to leave it there for us all.

MAS version is not from the same developer. This one's name spelled "Sidenodte", and the MAS version spelled "sideNote". I've seen the author of the MAS version left a comment on one of the MacUpdate page about making his own version of "Sidenote" because someone left a comment that he misses this original app.

I brought the MAS version and the app was too simplified. it cannot save multiple notes, and I didn't care for the look of it. I also bought SideWriter, which it could save multiple notes like original Sidenote, you could set it to hide on left or right side of your desktop, but other than that, there's no function to change font size, font style, line space. However, I did manage to port the notes from my original Sidenote to SideWriter.

I miss the original Sidenote too, it was the best desktop note taking app I ever used. I hope the developer would come back and update this awesome app for Lion and Mountain Lion.

God I miss this great li'l app. The only reasonable sub I've found is JustNotes. I'd recommend fellow Sidenote fans give it a try.

This is by far one of my favorite apps. Incredibly useful, easy to use, and love that I could tuck it away on the side of my screen. All the more reason why I've been SO BLOODY DISAPPOINTED that it doesn't work with OSX Lion, and the software author seems to have disappeared. I've upgrade to Lion, and have lost the use of Sidenote and all of the notes I've built up over the years.

Does anyone know how I can access the actual note content without being able to run the app on Lion?

And can someone please develop a similar app that does work with OSX Lion... and maybe the added feature of syncing w/ a service like Simplenote? I'd pay for it.

There's an app called SideWriter that apparently works with Lion. I'm a convert to the awesomeness of Notational Velocity, which does sync thru Dropbox or Simplenote. It doesn't pop out from the side, but I just link a four-finger tap on my trackpad to show/hide it instantly.

Sidenote notes are saved in Users/Your User Folder/Library/Application Support/Sidenote. They're rtfd files, so they open in TextEdit.

I've been using Sidenote for year. It's great how it just disapears and when I want it I just press a quick key combo and up it pops. This is one app I tell all of my new mac user friends to get....and it's FREE!!!

I love this app and use it everyday! But there is one problem:
Sometimes, if I open my side note window, suddenly there ist no content in it. The page is blank and I don´t know why. This is very annoying.

Greetings from Germany!

Really love this one. Just some things that can be further developed.
1: note isn't saved unless you choose to or choose another note.
2: Using Slashes in note name is not a good idea as it will reflect in the path
3: I'd really really would love the possibility to make links to other notes (and sort of make a mini-wiki)
5: If there was a possibility to sync with other notes and from there to the iPhone...
4: Other things I've thought about, but mostly i just like having Sidenote on the side of my screen

Just updated to Mountain Lion and was disappointed to find out Sidenote isn't compatible. I noticed someone said where to find the files to retrieve info from the notes. I don't have a library folder under my user name. I do search for Sidenote and find the folder, the app and a read me. But can't find the files for the notes? :-(

Oh and as a sidenote (no pun intended), I sent email to the developer and said I know they no longer support the application but asked if it was possible to let me know how to locate my lost files. There has been no response.

Hi Guys,

I'm in the club having installed Lion and lost my notes. According to posts my notes are not lost but are stored in the following location: Users/Your User Folder/Library/Application Support/Sidenote

I'm not the most tech-savvy guy out there but I'm stumped trying to find this even on my Time Machine back ups. Nor does a search for text files show me any of these lost notes.

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

I casually had a look in the activity monitor and was horrified of how much cpu Sidenote uses, just to stay there!
Even if I haven't found yet a better tool, I start searching... :-/

There appears to be a memory leak w/ the button mouseover. When you hover over the buttons quickly, sometimes the blue highlight lags behind and it ends up burning some 90%+ CPU usage, at least in my case anyway. Maybe I'm the only one experiencing this. Otherwise, a great app. Everything else seems to work fine.

I can't reproduce this bug on my computer. What version of MacOS are you using ? Also, do you use ShapeShifter or any haxie on your computer ?

I'm running 10.4.7 right now on an iMac 2.0ghz Intel. I don't have Shapeshifter currently installed on my computer (although at one point I did). It seems it only works when you move the mouse quickly over the buttons. It doesn't always happen, though. I wonder if it has something to do with Rosetta apps, because if I recall correctly, I had MS Word open while entering a note, so maybe that might have had an influence (so it probably might not have anything to do with sidenote itself). Still, thanks for the prompt response!

I've tried 2 different downloads, bth of which have the same problem: the DMG errors with "no mountable file systems".
Other dmg's mount fine on my system, and from the comments I don't see anyone else having this problem. Which strikes me as strange.

OK, new information from my previous problem: apparently other DMG's do not, in fact, mount fine on my system. I'll try restarting or something.
