Audio engine featuring a synthesizer, a sampler and more.

Overview

i am the mighty jungulator is an audio engine which fuses DJ, synthesizer and sampler into one real-time instrument.

The user can manipulate multiple audio samples simultaneously, moulding them like putty, whilst the Jungulator keeps them in perfect time. It also has sophisticated generative algorithms that allow the software to take creative decisions itself.

This version installs and opens without problems. Looks interesting, but there's no instruction manual. The Jungulator website states that a downloadable manual will "shortly" be available. Hmmm. Then why didn't the developer wait 'till the manual is ready before making Jungulator 4.3.1 available? While the full app is available without any limitations, the website states that Jungulator is shareware, and asks that the user "consider" a £35 contribution, which is currently about $66. OK, sounds fair, although, whether this app is worth that amount remains to be seen. I'm waiting for the instruction manual to be made available, so that I can try this puppy out.

hi Syzzygy, Apologies for our untogetherness in getting our manual out there...it IS a bit of a pain to get over the initial hump of sussing how to load samples and whatnot if your unfamiliar with the jungulator, we've just finished the manual for the new version and its going up on our website and on the shareware sites over the next few days...meantime, i'm assuming any problems you'll face with version 4.3.1 involve actually getting a sample to appear in a waveform window and to make some noise... ...briefly, you can drop a folder of samples onto the long grey bar directly above the bluish/green waveform window in the centre of any pod...then click on the little up/down arrows on the right hand end of the grey bar...you'll get a drop down list of the contents of your folder...pick a sample from the list and hit the little square button called 'list'...what will then happen is, the waveform of the sample you've chosen appears in the window, and the name of the sample appears on the long grey bar below it...then all you have to do is slide the big volume slider to the right of the waveform window up until you hear your sample and your good to go! (you can also drop individual samples directly onto the waveform window and they'll automatically appear)...I should point out that of course you need to have a folder of samples in the first place!! jungulator doesn't come with any sample banks (at least not yet), and it prefers aiffs and wavs...as a rule i like to load up drums/percussion type samples first, into pod A, establishing a beat first, then introducing ambience. riffs, melodies, etc into the other pods...when it comes to saving your mix, go to the light blue metro window and click 'start record'...everything that jungulator plays between then and when you press 'start record' again will be saved as a stereo aiff file called 'mighty mix' in user/library/preferences/max 4 preferences folder. re; 'Hmmm. Then why didn't the developer wait 'till the manual is ready before making Jungulator 4.3.1 available?' the short answer is; we're a clueless bunch of fools who can't organise the simplest co-ordinated software release to save our lives, hence our decision to play the 'open and honest' card and make jungulator a full-featured download rather than a limited demo... we really wanted it to remain freeware, and as we're not a software company as such (we're a band more than anything else) we thought for the time being the best way to go was to make it essentially donationware, with the notional pricetag of £35...i guess we'll see how this pans out over the next few months, and of course we actually have to set up a paypal site as well...it never ends... best regards, dave at i am the mighty jungulator

hi Marcus, sorry you've been having probs getting jungulator 4.2.1 to work...it IS a bit of a pain to get over the initial hump of sussing how to load samples and whatnot, have you downloaded the new version? We've gotten rid of the spinning beachball issue that some folk were experiencincing, and we've just finished a manual for the new version which is going up on our website and on the shareware sites over the next few days...meantime, i'm assuming any problems you'll face with version 4.3.1 involve actually getting a sample to appear in a waveform window and to make some noise... ...briefly, you can drop a folder of samples onto the long grey bar directly above the bluish/green waveform window in the centre of any pod...then click on the little up/down arrows on the right hand end of the grey bar...you'll get a drop down list of the contents of your folder...pick a sample from the list and hit the little square button called 'list'...what will then happen is, the waveform of the sample you've chosen appears in the window, and the name of the sample appears on the long grey bar below it...then all you have to do is slide the big volume slider to the right of the waveform window up until you hear your sample and your good to go!...I should point out that of course you need to have a folder of samples in the first place!! jungulator doesn't come with any sample banks (at least not yet), and it prefers aiffs and wavs, let me know if this helps any, regards, dave at i am the mighty jungulator

Got the same result as Clint. Contacted the author and await a reply. The 3D iTunes program on his site works well and is fun to play with.
