Network monitoring tools.

Overview

NetCheck is an OS X native application that provides an array of network monitoring, email alerts, logging, and reporting features. NetCheck not only provides immediate customized alerts, but also provides the historical outage information that we need to work with our business partners on quality service issues using historical patterns seen in our NetCheck logging and reporting. This enables the network administrator to identify problems and work issues that otherwise would go unnoticed.

The main focus of this application is uptime monitoring of critical devices and applications, along with the features which provide this -- email alerts, logging, and reporting. You can create an EMAIL group for each special interest group and site, then create an ICMP/Port Monitoring entry that associate all devices and applications being monitored with that email group created for the site.

This application was written natively in Objective C to be a native OS X application. You can install NetCheck and have it monitoring your network in a couple hours. NetCheck is a simple, efficient, and fully functional solution which provides the user with granular control of monitoring devices and applications. NetCheck is already heavily in use on a global scale.

Honestly, Comic Sans? I am so horrified that the screenshot on MU is actually up to date, I figured it might have been old/outdated - but no the interface is that bad. Also, why limit the date search range? That's just unfair, what if someone doesn't want to upgrade to the latest version, but it's after 2012? There are far better ways to manage dates - dropdown menus are not the most efficient for that cause. Looking at the ZAP window for AppZapper I'm also seeing 14 preference files. How unorthodox can this get? I'm glad I don't actually need this program. This needs an interface efficiency makeover, it would make it easier to use, easier to read, and not turn away so many people at the sight of the screenshots.

The user interface is really confusing. The documentation is even more confusing. If the point of this app is to get little things done quickly, it has a long way to go, since it's not really obvious how to do much of anything.

To answer the message below. NetCheck is written in Cocoa/Xcode. It is very solid and in use on numerous major government and corporate networks around the world. The admins who use it say it is a time and life saver. Most admins who try NetCheck end up using it. Do not let the low price deter you from trying it. This is a very professional application written from the ground up by an industry vetran to monitor the uptime of networks, critical devices and applications. Since he is still the admin of a huge network and a consultant to others it is based on real hands on experience and is constantly being improved. Yes, there are a couple very pricey $$ applications that can do some of what NetCheck does but any busy admin who is looking to, do less and accomplish more, owes it to themselves to take a minute and try NetCheck. It is just what is needed and will save many headaches.

Netbarrier is all I can say! Indeed the price is a bit steep but one of the best I have seen thus far.

Why not getting something professional to do your network monitoring, like www.nagios.org or www.intermapper.com? Oh. Taking a look at the screenshot tells me this is REALbasic. I didn't download this app, tho, so I won't give it a good or bad rating.
