!PIX Screen Capture Converter

2.11
11 August 2005

Change screenshots from .PDF to other formats. (was 9PIX SCC.)

Overview

When you use Mac OS X shortcuts to capture elements of screen as files to your desktop, you will finish with one or more PDF files. Normally, if you want these files in another format, you will have to convert manually them later in an image editor or a program like iPhoto, for example. But if you want to save time, 9PIX Screen Capture Converter is for you.

9PIX Screen Capture Converter intercepts the PDF file, as soon as it arrives on the desktop and presents you a window where you can choose the format you want the file among NINE different formats: BMP, JPEG, JPEG2000, PDF, PICT, PNG, PSD, QuickTime Image and TIFF! All you have to do is choose the format, click OK and the file is generated in seconds.

What's new in !PIX Screen Capture Converter

On this new 2.11 release we included a new feature called CLIPBOARD. If you choose this option, then all the snapshots are copied to the clipboard, so, instead of creating a file on your desktop, you send snapshots to memory, what will allow you to just paste them on your open documents in a flash. Despite the format you choose, !PIX always copy snapshots to the clipboard, so you always have the possibility of pasting them on your documents after capturing.

Another new feature of release 2.11 is that all images captured are shown on a preview window tha vanishes automatically after one second!

I'm trying to get this program to work but it doesn't show up in the scripts/folderactions folder as per the authors website. There seems to be no way to contact the author and I very much wish he would provide an E-Mail address

Snap-n-drag does this for FREE and it is a true screen-capture tool, though it only offers PNG, JPEG and TIFF support. Likewise, TinkerTool, again FREE, offers a plethora of formats to save a screenshot as.

Version 1.1 is an improvement over v. 1.0. 01. You do not move the 'Desktop' based '.pdf' file into the newly created 'pdf' folder, if '4. PDF' is selected from the displayed list of file formats. Actually, you could omit '4. PDF' from the list and just move the '.pdf' file to the newly created 'pdf' folder - automatically, if the user had selected the 'Abort' button. Failing to move the '.pdf' file from the 'Desktop' will cause a 'Finder' alert box ['Preparing copy to "Desktop" - 'An item named ... with extension ... already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you are moving?'] to appear should another '.pdf' file with the same file name be dragged onto the 'Desktop'. Also, the new '.pdf' file - after the alert box is dismissed [via either the 'Cancel' or 'Replace' button] will not be processed by the 'Folder Action' script. 02. You can change the 'do shell script "date ..."' command to '(do shell script "date +%Y%m%d_%H%M%S__image_")' or similar. 03. You do not have to supply to the public, a '.scpt' file with the code viewable.

Hi, I am the author. I would like to excuse me for not putting (yet) an email address on the site. The question is that I had some problems with this server while updating it. But I am working now to solve this soon. The same is true for the flaws in code. I am improving the program right now and expecting to have another version today or tomorrow. Keep an eye on the site. http://www.sefazfavor.com/9pix

01. The '.scpt' file works. See the accompanying 'html' file for a nice step by step isntallation and activation process. 02. There are flaws in the code however. 02.01. When the 'Cancel' button is pressed - the code processes the '.pdf' file and converts it to a '.tif' file. This should not happen. A cancelled process should end, not continue. 02.02. If 'JPEG' is selected from the displayed list - the '.pdf' file will be converted to 'JPEG 2000' with a '.jpeg2' extension. This is due to the fact that the inner most repeat is not properly exited. 02.03. If a 'Pictue 1.pdf' file is created [via 'Command' - - '3, etc.] and then converted, and then another snapshot is taken [now titled 'Pictue 1.pdf'] - and the same file format [of the previous 'Pictue 1.pdf' fi] selected from the list, the first converted file is saved over by the last one. 03. The '.scpt' file is nice and works [mostly]; but, requires some corrections, and a means [by renaming the lasted file] to prevent writing over existing files.

Good idea and nice to have for quick conversion of PDF to PNG (for example) when working with both Mac and PC stuff. However, 9PIX will put the screen capture in the background with things like HELIOS LANTEST, dimming the captured window data and making things like light gray text hard to read. Would also be nice if the desired file format could be preset, as opposed to having to select it with each capture and conversion.

Hi, All these problems were solved on release 2.11. Beyond the correction of problems we now have included the possibility to copy the image to the clipboard. In fact, despite the format(s) chosen for final output, captured image is always copied to the clipboard. On the other hand you can choose exclusively the clipboard as the final destination. We have also included a preview window that shows the image captured before sending it to the clipboard.
