The Lonesome Electric Chicken3.2

Quotations on your desktop.

Overview

The Lonesome Electric Chicken is a time and life wasting application that spews forth a gathering of quotations. That\'s it. Don\'t look any farther into it than that.

Currently there are only about 70 quotes in the chicken pile. These are quotations that appeal to me personally, and may not jive with your own individual tastes. Some folks may enjoy them, others will most assuredly not. The Lonesome Electric Chicken is not intended to be a spiritually or morally uplifting application, although you may find it to be so anyway.

This one gave me a good laugh. The ReadMe is very funny and the whole program is funny in general. I like the preferences also - although I think "killing the chicken" should be a bit more bloody. Does what it says - which isn't much, but still worth the download (at least for the laugh).

Still able to wing it after all these years, The Lonesome Electric Chicken has still not yet crossed the road to the other side. Even if you keep this chicken running around on a headless PC, you can hear the bawks of wisdom through your speakers. It's no spring chicken, yet it still works just fine on latest macOS Sierra 10.12.2.

You may bawk, but this app keeps on clucking. The Lonesome Electric Chicken is still running like a headless chicken with 10.6.7 on a 2011 MacBook Pro. Not even time itself can stop The Lonesome Electric Chicken. -1/2 star for no other reason than I accidentally clicked that and MacUpdate kept it stuck that way.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do, runs great, and... Best. Readme. Ever.

Excellent software! The developer gave me more help and support for this freeware app than most companies give for programs that I pay for. The customizable aspects are awesome and if you get tired of the chicken just play with the font color and display quotes in plain ol' text.

Suggestion: Allow the use of the "Edit->Copy" menu item so we can copy-and-paste quotes...

I set the delay to "2400 seconds". It accepted it without complaint, but silently reset the delay to 20 seconds. Suggestion: allow longer delays for people like me who read slowly.

The way the program should work, is that it should connect to a remote server to connect to a .txt file to retreive the quote list. This was you never have to update the program to add more quotes. If you make this app in REALbasic, I can help you with this. Just an idea...

I haven't downloaded the program yet, but I thought I'd contribute a suggestion anyway. Here's a whole boatload of quotes files to add to the chicken: http://www.geocities.com/jasonpell/zipfiles/fortfile.zip http://freshmeat.net/browse/895/?topic_id=895 http://www.codehappy.net/fortune/fortune.zip http://vipe.technion.ac.il/~shlomif/humour/fortunes/fortunes-shlomif-0.2.7.tar.gz :) [I'm in several of these files, as well as the 350 and 400 point Berkeley versions of Adventure]

Well, the app is nice and funny. But I have the impression that this app is a copy of iScorn and its developer copies the style of Wil Gieseler's Mindquark Software. Please apologize if I am completely false...!

Don't be a complete and utter idiot, Kevin. Spare us. If you haven't used the app, DON'T COMMENT ON IT! As for your "idea," yeah, that's great -- it you want to open the Terminal every time and have NO USER INTERFACE. Nico

I haven't tried this program, but from the description it just looks like an attempt to re-invent the wheel, i.e. fortune. If you want to see random quotations, go install fortune and put it in your ~/.bash_profile (gives you a new quotation each time you open the Terminal).
