Food finder and ingredients database.

What is Dietician X for Mac

Dietician X is a professional foodfinder and editable ingredients database - all menus and foods in English and German Language now. Over 1000 Foods and whats inside. An extensive and efficient food data bank with over 1000 food items, which can be used by experts and novices alike. The specific food items can be searched via an alphabetical list, or rather via an automatically integrated search function. Depending on availability, 18 macro-(partly graphic) and micro-nutrients can be shown.

The calculation basis can be choosen in 1g steps. In addition, the food items acceptability will be given with regard to four diseases (obesity, diabetes, gout and heart disease). Upon choosing a food item, a calculation follows showing the percentage share of the daily recommended intake (according to DGE), as well as an appraisal of the food item based on its nutrient concentration.

Moreover, a calculation is given for protein, carbohydrate exchange, magnesium/calcium ratio and natrium/kalium ratio. The macro-nutrient content is shown as a graphic. In the body module, a calculation and rating (shown as a graph) is possible according to BMI, waist-hip ratio, energy requirements and additional needs via sport. In the alcohol module, various drinks are calculated according to their alcohol content.

Impossible, badly readable, unchangeable color combinations. Test version had run after 24 hours.

My GF decided to test drive this one and her first impression wasn't really great. I think UI needs to be more polished...

I like that this was included in the promo, any app that encourages conscientious eating is good. Personally, I have my wife for that, though the price is "tempting." I'm not going to shell out Calorieking $$, so I think the price is right for those of us looking to weigh in on this type of app... :-)

While CalorieKing may be more full-featured, let's face it - most of us don't use all the features of a lot of programs we own. This one seems to have the basics, and people can always move to another program down the road if they find they use this one a lot. But when it comes to diets, few people actually follow through with the instructions from cookbooks, diet books, and the like. So this one works for me!

I tested out the free download of Dietician X. I found the program to lack in common foods found in the USA. It would be great if the developer had more INSTRUCTION on how to use the program. It would be great if after your item selections it would offer recipes. Maybe this is something the developer could add to the next version. I check out Calorieking.com which seems to be much more superior program but the price is a bit steep.

This is ugly. I don't want that under that fornm. I'd however gladly help its author improve it and translate it to French.

I'm a CalorieKing user, too, and am very satisfied. You want to have as large a database of food items as possible, otherwise you'll be doing a lot of research and/or data entry, and amy not stick with using the program. Sounds like Dietician X, with only 1000 items, falls short.

This looks great. All the other applications I have tied have just been for the Americas (imperial system) so this is actually the first one that looks somewhat useful for me.

This software don't hold the comparison with Calorie King. But... Calorie King is more expensive and have some display glitches in Leopard for now (at least for me).

Don't forget that CalorieKing is $45; we can get Dietician X today for just $11. Since I am currently trying to lower my calorie intake, while I'm learning to bake bread and cook Italian, I'm tempted by this offer!

I always read the Promo comments before I do anything else on the MacUpdate Promo site. They are always very helpful in deciding if I'm interested in the Promo. Today's sounds like a "trier."

As a personal trainer, this app is just what I've been looking for. It's so hard to find decent health related apps on the Mac. Why? This would be great for assessing eating habits and making recommendations to clients.

I much prefer Calorieking.com's Nutrition and Exercise Manager, which has over 50,000 food items, automatic updates, goal-setting, etc. You can also plug into an online component (for an extra fee), but the interface is so much cleaner.

The term "light" is very misleading, if not deceptive. With only 200 items available most of the database is inaccessible, and therefore useless.

Not really free: Only the first 200 food items are shown for free. Also: Calorie index is missing. If you pay for it: I still miss a way to list foods by their nutrition values, like putting high-protein on the top or high magnesium. I found no way to effeciently search like that. Also: There's no need to install data, readme, licence, ... into /Library/Preferences/Datapack. All this could be inside the application or an application folder. Some optical glitches, too.

This is a nice small data base with regard to looking at one's diet. I highly recommend this for anyone interested in knowing the contents of diverse food items and how this might affect their health. Bravo.
