Although it is not available on MacUpdate, another great Mac app for studying solar images -- including solar movies -- is JHelioviewer. The Macintosh version currently stands at 2.1.3 rev 421. It is a Java-based program, but runs great on my 27" iMac running the latest version of Snow Leopard. You can download this free app at:

http://www.jhelioviewer.org/

The images and movies it creates are huge, and quite impressive.

It works well on Leopard. It does what it says it would do.

Thanks

I've been suffering through the loss of Solscape when I upgraded to Leopard. Sun Spotter doesn't do all that Solscape does, but that's OK. I like it.

Of course. And the application Read Me says as much! But if you're an amateur astronomer (like me) who likes to view the Sun through a telescope, being able to quickly toggle between different solar views via keyboard shortcuts is actually very useful.

Hmm.. instead of using an application I can just go to http://plop.nascom.nasa.gov/ and get the images in my browser.

Hmmm...

Maybe I know the problem.
I don't use Stuffit Expander, but The Unarchiver...
Much better program if you ask me, but apparently doesn't work with Sun Spotter...

Well.. I have to download SE then, right? :)

Well, I've re-stuffed the archive with another program, and it looks/works fine for me. I've made a .zip archive for the Mac version anyway, and that should be the one linked next time MacUpdate updates this entry. So maybe no more Stuffit problems...?
