I do remixes from time to time but mostly use Ableton Live. Reason is because Logic is unstable from version 7. Tried this new update and I am pleased to say it does not crash anymore when timescaling large audio files/tracks. That is a big plus and could well mean I can pickup Logic again after a long time. Most especially for mastering!

The 9.1.6 also improves the bounces with plug-ins using multi-cores.

Why are Logic Express and Logic Pro both listed at $199? Hope that's a mis-print.

Best DAW in the price range, and seriously spanks ProToolsLE, which is much more. Apple took what was already a great release (7.2) and made it better by refining the UI, adding in GuitarAmpPro, UltraBeat, and several other additions from Logic Pro. If you record music on your Mac, get Logic Express/Logic Studio.

Update says "can't find an application to patch" but I have the Logic Express.app right there in my osx/applications folder.

Any explanation or tips?

Oh, and by the way Eric Wahlforss - I dunno what you're doing wrong but my Kontakt 2 works fine. Maybe you're just expecting it to behave differently, but I'm sure it works as *intended* under Logic Express.

Other comments? Bring back the "strip silence" function and the "Audio Configuration" editor so I can shuffle my plugins around

I have upgraded from LE6 last week. Great upgrade. Great integration with GarageBand. You can use GarageBand as your "sketch book", then load the GB projects into Logic 7 and work on the details.
Also a plus: no more dongle! Although you'll still need it to activate the upgrade the first time you launch LE7.

I still keep LE6 though because of its ability to *write* EXS instruments, although that functionality was possibly available by sort of a "mistake" (or even a "bug"). In LE7 the EXS Instrument Editor is definitely gone from the Audio menu.

just bought logic express 7.1 and quickly realized that i won't correctly trigger my native instruments kontakt 2 sampler. and still no way of using keyboard to move notes. apple loops?! phew.. please give me a break...

man, this sucks badly -- it's clearly the way things goes when we are dealing with a monopoly situation...

Uhm! There is a trial of Logic Express freely avaliable from Apple: http://www.apple.com/logicexpress/trial/

Caveat emptor..

Besides that, Apple most definitely is not a monopoly, hence the existence of Cubase and Pro Tools and probably a slew of other fully capable softwares which I'm not aware of. You do, in fact, have other options, and this bad situation you've come underis your own fault.
