Having used SafariStand for many years I was disappointed when I found that it didn't work in Safari 7.0. I am not sure whether this version works or not. The trouble is Safari will not let me download it because of an 'untrusted certificate' or something. It would be nice if this problem was cleared up soon.

I should add that until this is resolved, I will go back to OmniWeb (ancient and outdated as it is - it still works in Mavericks). The sidebar has always worked flawlessly in OW.

Yeah, OmniWeb is "old reliable" and it's sidebar is terrific, plus it has a very small RAM footprint compared to Safari or Chrome. And OW's Workspaces are the best implementation of that idea I've ever used. iCab is very good too, and has been under more constant development than OW, and has more nifty features, so it's worth a look too.

Dale,

You say, "I have SafariStand working on my old Intel iMac with Safari 7.0. Give it another try."

Does that mean SIMBL or EasySIMBL now work with Mavericks?

I have EasySIMBL running on my old Intel iMac right next to 10.9 Mavericks. I don't know why there's no mention of the compatibility on either MacUpdate or EasySIMBL's website. I don't know what kind of machine you have, but my iMac is five years old and everything regarding SafariStand runs fine.

Well, thanks, Dale, for your tip, because from all the discussion I'd seen in threads on MU, and no mention of Mavericks for either SafariStand or EasySIMBL, I didn't even bother trying but to my delight, yes, it seems to work, though there've been a few very minor glitches with the Tweet feeds randomly showing up in the side tabs, and sometimes SafariStand just doesn't show up at all unless I fire up EasySIMBL, and then quit it and start Safari again, but that's no big deal...having the side tabs back, now *that's* a big deal, and this version looks better than the old ones...btw, I too have a five-year old Mac, a late 2008 iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, so mine's a relative "oldie" too...anyway, thanks for the tip; it's great having SafariStand back.....if OmniGroup gets the Mavericks version of OmniWeb fully functional, I still may bail Safari and go there... :)

Dale replied on 27 Nov 2013
Yes, I too sometimes have to fire up EasySIMBL and turn it back on so that all my various tweaks work. I do really like having the SafariStand tabs on the side. I'm really glad you can choose what side to have your tabs on. My setup is I have the SafariStand tabs on the right, and the Safari sidebar on the left. And just so you know, I used to use Chrome until I saw this new version of Safari that came out with 10.9 Mavericks. It seems to be much faster on my old iMac.

Back to the thread: I have now been using Safari Stand with Safari 7 for a few weeks now. The latest EasySIMBL is the best of the lot, but still occasionally needs a relaunch to get Stand working again. Aside from that, I see that OmniWeb is starting up again and is in testing mode for a Mavericks release rsn. This news comes like a Christmas Present for me!

I don't see any settings in the preferences of SafariStand to choose which side to have SS on...how did you set that?

Dale replied on 28 Nov 2013
Hi Steven,

All you have to do is right-click (control-click) on the side bar and at the bottom of the menu it says "Move Sidebar to Far Side." Although if you have SafariStand's side bar over the standard Safari sidebar you have to close Safari's sidebar before you can get to the controls for SafariStand's sidebar.

Dale,

Fantastic! That does the trick, esp. first closing the Safari bar. Many thanks. It's so much more useful not having the Safari side bar covered up - lol! Happy holidays! Steve

Grandpa John,

First, thanks for your post, which became the vehicle for sharing a lot of very helpful information about SafariStand. I hope you didn't feel you got hijacked! Second, I am totally with you in being delighted about the Mavericks OminWeb beta. It's missing goodies at the moment, but when it gets finished, it will be awesome. I am so glad OmniGroup didn't abandon it...it might have been easy to do so, since I would suspect their other products consume their time.

Thanks again, and happy holidays!

I regularly have so many tabs open, that vertical or side tabs are just a must in any browser, so I hope that there is eventually a version of SafariStand for Safari 7.0 and Mavericks. I know that also depends on SIMBL or EasySIMBL working in Mavericks, so I've got my fingers crossed. For now, as much as I appreciate the improvements in Safari 7.0, I'll be using iCab or Firefox, with the Tree Style Tab extension. (Chrome is just too big a resource hog.) But I'd sure love to use Safari 7.0 and hope that there's a SafariStand version for it.

As an inveterate user of vertical tabs, SafariStand is what makes Safari my default browser. It handles the task elegantly and I've grown to take it for granted. When it caused Safari 6.0.4 to crash I tried unsuccessfully to revert to Safari 6.0.3. A day later a new version of SafariStand became available. Highly recommended and thanks to the developer.

My biggest concern is that SafariStand will be rendered useless by some future OS or Safari release. For years it's an indispensable tool. I am glad it continues to be maintained by the developer.

I would love to see a manual in English. Features have been added.

Normal tabs. Normal TABS. NORMAL TABS! YES!

Five stars for that alone. But to make it a fair five stars, nothing seems to be broken by this installation, everything I've asked SafariStand to do seems to be working, and it does not appear to have had any impact whatsoever on the speed or any other aspect of Safari's performance.

OK. NORMAL TABS!!!!!

i wouldn't mind a screen shot or idea of how this "Sub Resources Window" works or looks.

Lose of activity window was biggset loss to me on safari 6. it's a make it or break it feature. "page resources" is woefully inadaquate as it shows me resource names, it doesn't show me network activity, or when a resource ISN"T loading (ie not found, or whatever). it just shows completed resources. what's this safari stand feature do?

I hate the wide tabs in Safari 6. To my relief, I now have the old tabs back with SafariStand 6.0.183 (and several other additions to Safari as a bonus).

Works fine here in Mountain Lion, with EasySIMBL installed in ~/Applications and SafariStand installed through EasySIMBL, which installed it in ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins (I already removed the old SIMBL and related plugins when in Snow Leopard).

I was a bit puzzled about why the vertical tabs didn't appear to be working when I closed and then reopened Safari. It seems that if you leave the vertical tabs/reading list panel open when you quit Safari then when you reopen it, vertical tabs are disabled. If you remember to close the vertical tabs/reading list panel before quitting Safari then all works fine.

Any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks!

I've always loved Stand, but noticed that after my last couple of Safari updates (I'm running 5.05 on 10.6.8 Intel i7 iMac) my Safari, always a memory hog went from hog to insane, quickly jumping to using 3 of my 4 gb of memory. Someone suggested taking out Stand, and while Safari still uses way too much memory, it now seems to be maxing out at about 1.5 gb. Any suggestions on how to use Stand and not turn Safari into a memory monster? Thanks!

Same here, History Flow is empty. Is there some incompatibility (with Safari upgrade or other plugins) or are we the only ones with this problem? Cover Flow works otherwise.

Config : MacBook 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 10.5.6 + Safari 3.2.1 + SafariStand 3.1L162
+ SafariTabs 0.6.2 (Tab undo support) and 1Password 2.11.1

Apparently there is a major conflict between SafariStand and 1Password leading to problematic displaying of the 1password browser extension button in Safari toolbar as multiple Windows reopen at launch (SS) leads to multiple 1Password button in the toolbar.
Deselect this option in SafariStand setting (Restore Method at Launch=Nothing) and let SafariTabs control this parameter (When Safari Launches = Automatically open saved Tabs) and you override that issue.
