Apeiron X is Ambrosia's highly acclaimed classic, "Apeiron", given a new lease of life. With updated 16 bit graphics, OS X compatability, and the same fast paced, frantic gameplay. Also, you can now see how you rank against the best, with the built Internet High Scores! Got what it takes?

During a port through the looking glass, the mirror shatters and your ethereal energy (you know, the stuff that allows you to get up and go to work on a Monday morning...) is trapped within one of the crystal shards. Immediately, the residents of the mushroom patch sense your presence. Lead by the

Been playing this for a long time. Cool game.

OS X version seems unable to do autoswitching of resolution, if your screen is set at 1024 x 768 the game plays in a window not full screen. One is forced to go to system prefs and set the computer to 800 x 600 then launch the game to play full screen. No matter how the game prefs are set, this still has to be done. Ambrosia provided me with no solid answer as to why (assuming it's a programming issue, they have not made it possible for the game to do autoswitching like ALMOST every other game out there can!).

A real pain in the you know what.

Although this game is great in every other aspect, my rating is a 2 for Ambrosia's lack of attention to this in the 1.0.2 update when they know well what the issue is.

Correction...the game does go to full screen and cover the desktop, HOWEVER the game is actually sized at 800x600 in the middle of a background...the game field itself is not going to full screen size as it should without going to system prefs and changing the computer resolution.

Several reinstalls of the game, deleting prefs, two or three different installs of the OS and still this persists. It's done it with a stock ATI Rage, an NVidia, and an ATI 9200 card installed. It's done exactly the same thing on two different Macs.

Ambrosia's best suggestion is to make a new user acct and try it from there which doesn't work.

They know about it and tell me they can't reproduce it. I doubt it.

APERION, since day one, before OS X, has always been the best arcade type game available. It lost nothing when converted to OS X, and is still entertaining and just plain fun to play. ENJOY!

Switching to a 16 bit video mode is actually slower if you have an nVidia GPU (such as is used in the 12" PB and the Mini).

If you think I am going to let you stay on my hard drive after 6 minutes of play to get to level 15, I have one question for you.

WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING ?

Not happy with Ambrosia! Attempted to use old registration code with no success. Attempted e-mail correspondence, no response- 3 days and still waiting. Tried the "invalid registration steps" it takes you through in the registration process to get support. Again still waiting. Found out today that other users posting their reviews mentioned there is a upgrade fee. No mention of this in the main info window. Went to the web site to find out. I paid the upgrade fee and everything is okay now. Where are their heads? I'll let you fill in the answer to this. BTW....They never got the spelling right of my last name and no correspondence was made by them to correct it. I have to use the miss spelling to play the game.

Fun, cute (albeit flat and 2d, with no OpenGL flair) graphics, fast-paced, and yeah, I missed the OS 9 version. However, unless you've registered the OS 9 version, it's $15 if you want to get past level 15, not just after the first 30 days. Having played the earlier version a lot, and being old enough have gotten really good at the original Centipede, I got to level 15 on my first game after downloading, inside of 10 minutes. It does get harder past about level 12 or 13, which is good.

If it were $5 for everyone, I'd register it. $15 is just too steep for me.

During a port through the looking glass, the mirror shatters and your ethereal energy (you know, the stuff that allows you to get up and go to work on a Monday morning...) is trapped within one of the crystal shards. Immediately, the residents of the mushroom patch sense your presence. Lead by the Pentipede, this motley crew of mushroom patch misfits relentlessly hunt the crystal ( You! ), intent upon sucking out the trapped energy. The Pentipede is a sinister creature that has the ability to divide. So, if you think your troubles are over when you shoot this sneakered psycho once, you are twice as wrong. The Pentipede is joined by a ruthless assortment of animated killers, and your situation is further complicated by a few unpleasant "environmental" hazards. Luckily you are not defenseless; with plasma cannon blazing, you must hold out as long as possible. Shooting certain mushrooms can be very beneficial to your mission. Several power up coins are scattered throughout the garden. Find one of these and you can teach the Pentipede and his pals the meaning of "full auto."
