I'm not a professional eBay seller by any means and hadn't sold anything for years but recently I decided it was time to clear out a lot of old photo gear that is no longer in use and when I logged into eBay I was mildly horrified at how much the layout had changed. It just wasn't a place where I wanted to spend a lot of time.

I remembered GarageSale so I decided to give it a test run and found that I liked it. Much like any new software there is a bit of a learning curve but the ability to verify costs and check for errors before going live makes it all pretty foolproof and it definitely enables you to produce a far better looking auction.

If you plan to sell several items, GarageSale makes everything much faster and you can use their hosting for images, which will also save money. In truth I would have been fine with the basic version but for a few extra dollars I have something with more advanced options if I choose to get more involved with eBay.

One small observation is that I bought my copy from the Apple App Store but if I was doing this again I'd buy direct from the developers because you get faster access to updates and the template store if needed.

So far I have sold three items and all of them have gone for more money than I was expecting, so it seems likely GarageSale has already paid for itself.

Just as a quick update I contacted the developers who told me that the license from the App Store will still be recognised if you choose to download direct from their website and I was able to install the latest beta including all the features with no problems, so I'm happy with that.

Bidding on stuff from eBay is plain easy with this tool. The GUI is very nice OSX-a-like and is easy to understand/use.

Although the asking fee is a bit high imo it pays of quickly in the end.

Highly recommended when you use eBay a lot.

Frustrated by a "feature" on postage.
An auction finished 2 weeks ago with the buyer being in the russian federation. I only ship within Europe.

To exclude buyers you now have to specify which countries you ship to (seems obvious).

Then select exclude option of countries you dont ship to (tick box in preferences).

Then (in my case) select over 200 countries I want excluded.

Surly the option should be if you say what countries you will ship too all other countries are excluded automatically.

That would make sense (please )

Yeah, that obvious failure to be user-friendly is pretty severe. It would be a deal-breaker for me, especially since this products is several times more expensive than its competition.

I've been a long time user of GarageSale and have very few complaints. It creates attractive listings. It's GUI, while certainly not perfect is still pretty darn good.

As for the price and paid upgrades, there have been numerous updates to version 6 that are free. There is no paid upgrade every month or few months. I'm note sure what the issue is.

The included image hosting, without having to pay Ebay or get tangled up with unreliable or pricey image hosting services ends up paying for itself alone, IMO.

What's better on the Mac that does a better job? I don't think there is anything.

So, I've rated the app a little higher to help offset some of the harsh ratings. FYI, I've never had a "204" error that I can recall.
I have had a glitch or two, but the Dev seems to be working on improving the overall stability. So, I'm still a satisfied customer.

Well, for a longer time this app was very helpfully for my items on ebay, but the prices for all the upgrades (who are not seldom) made this software unusable for my private stuff.

Continued "204" error codes have degraded this product to the point of useless. You can spent an hour designing a beautiful auction only to push the 'start your auction' button and end up with a "204" error code and no matter what you do, you can't get it to work. End result, you end up going directly to eBay and using their built-in templates and that, dear friends, defeats the whole purpose of 'beautiful' auctions and sends the cost of your GarageSale purpose down the drain. Fix it developers. I won't use this product again until you do.

I too was vexed with 204 errors:
Then I discovered I was using eBays "Prohibited Words" within my listings, and this helped cure *most* of my errors:
http://www.iwascoding.com/mediawiki/index.php/EBay_Error_240

I use GarageSale 5.5.1 on OSX 10.6.8 successfully, and I am satisfied, with just slight WYSIWYG anomalies, but overall my auctions look better than the plain jane ones I compete against

The developer has a decent wiki, and there is a helpful yahoo usergroup forum that answered my problems, and now I am good with quite a few killer templates I modify/reuse often...

I am independent user, no association with developer, and I have sold a bit of my overstock via my older GarageSale app...

Last month I was getting the dreaded 204 error.
I went round in circles trying to fix it.
In the end by a process of elimination the problem turned out to be that I had NOT used the ebay specific category where they lump all the same products into one pot (ie iPad 2, 32 gb, white, etc etc etc).
I had to select the "attributes" function and then find the exact model match. Problem I found is that my model of macbook pro was not listed, but that is another story.

It would have been helpful if the garagesale failure message was more helpful as I wasted several hours looked for illegal words (which there were none).

Anyhow been using GS for many years and do all my auctions with it.

Beware before updating from version 5.0.1 to 5.0.2. The latest version seems to have massively broken access to the OS X Keychain, which removes any authorized accounts and prevents them from being added back. It also produces multiple requests to access the Keychain every time the program is started. I tried redownloading and installing the program and reset all of my old preferences--nothing helps.

I just emailed the developer last night, but need to get my hands on version 5.0.1 ASAP because I have auctions running and some finished ones I need to have. The last backup of the program I have is version 5.0.0 which was recently broken by an Ebay API change. The developer on has very old versions for download (3.5.something) from the website and not recent ones!

Very frustrating! I guess I'll be hesitant to update without backing up the program in the future!

Just downloaded GarageSale 3.1.3, after realizing how terrible iSale can be.

I love the ease of GarageSale, but recently encountered a problem, where I can only type my description in the editor, instead of simply clicking into the description area, and typing. I'll click into this area, and get nothing, no curser, etc.... If I type a bunch of mumbo jumbo, it'll show up when I open the "Edit Description" box. Not a biggie, but kind of a pain to float between two windows, when I know it's not necessary. I've created five auctions with no problem, this just started today.

I'm Mac illiterate, so any help on where I went wrong would be appreciated!

I loved this program before it stopped working for me out of nowhere.

I have sent emails to the support and also posted messages on the message board with no responses (yet).

I can't seem to get a connection to ebay. I get "null" errors etc..

I have double and triple checked my FTP settings and everything looks ok.

I have no idea what's going on and I've got 200 auctions ready to go.

I'm so bummed out it's unbelievable.
