kJams overview

kJams can Rip, Mix, Play and Burn CD+G format discs. Create playlists, sort by name, artist, album etc. Import existing MP3+G files, (zipped or not), search your library. Import QuickTime, optionally zipped Audio+G, bin/cue, CAVS (MCG, NCG), MTU (KMA), Acesonic "CDG", LRC, KTP and UltraStar files , Change the pitch and tempo independently, show the graphics (optionally) full screen and/or (optionally) on a 2nd monitor or TV. Rip using the LAME encoder. Get and submit CD meta-info from freedb. Export CD+G to QuickTime (to iPod & iPhone too!) The Pro version allows individual singers to manage their favorites, history and "tonight" playlists, and manages a "Rotation" smart playlist that interleaves upcoming singers automatically. The Burner lets you burn (optionally pre-pitch-bent) CD+G discs that will play in real Karaoke hardware.

i've been in the karaoke industry for over a decade and K jams is by far the best thing to happen to the industry since Madonna . I'm top of all of that Dave with Kjams has got to be the best tech service out there , with every stupid question I have is fast and efficient to respond to me whenever I need . Bottom line if you're thinking about purchasing Kjams for your business or home use think no more it's well worth it

kJams here states that it can import quicktime files like midi, and kar. On the actual website it says it can't play them. Why is the information misleading? Does it plan to add this feature? If it did have that I would buy it on the spot. I would like to play kar files so I can control the sounds, changing instrument, muting or soloing a sound. For now you have to have two softwares to accomplish this, kjams and Qmidi or MidiCo.

By far the best piece of Karaoke software out there, both on Mac and PC (and I've tried lots of them). I originally brought the lite version for my home setup, then upgraded to the Pro version (which included iPhone/iPad integration to choose songs from your iDevice). Excellent file handling and re-naming. With the additional burning plug-in it has brilliant, easy CDG writing. On top of that, a friendly, helpful, responsive developer who updates the program regularly and is very active on the forum.

This software is beautifully done -- I have used the leading PC karaoke software for years, and although it "gets the job done", kJams goes above and beyond my expectations. Easy searches, clear organization, extraordinarily high quality video output...and all in a clean, Mac UI. In addition, the software's mastermind is more customer-focused than any software vendor I've dealt with EVER. And it even has an integrated iPhone app (available on the Apple App Store) to allow people to search your music and put themselves on the venue list! Even my wife is amazed... I have read a few of the criticisms of kJams here, but I can tell you with complete confidence -- the leading PC karaoke software can't hold a candle to this package. If you own a Mac and like karaoke, I have two words: buy kJams. Steve.

Full disclosure: I have owned kJams Pro for a couple of years. I have talked a couple of friends into buying kJams. I have worked with Dave Cotter many many many times. It is a beta system designed by one person. It is much more sophisticated than iTunes where Apple has a ton of engineers designing and maintaining the application. I give kJams four out of five stars with the last star being left out until beta goes operational. I know several PC based karaoke DJs and their system is nothing compared to this. Finally, the only criticism I could provide is the frequency of updates. However, updates are usually for enhancements followed by updates to fix bugs which are fixed promptly. The guy is a genius and he is a fanatic devotee to servicing his customers. I am getting my money's worth and consider it a privilege whenever he spends the time to not only fix any bug but to teach me in the process. So there.

Wow, what incredible customer service! I recently purchased KJams Pro and because of MY lack of computer knowledge, was having extreme difficulty with the program. Within 10 minutes of taking over my computer, Dave had me understanding the program like a pro. I would buy this product 100 times over again just for the customer support. Thanks, Dave. Again: People, be aware that kJams makes *several* releases per month. By the time you post "it doesn't work" it is probably already fixed. Please do your homework before posting. That includes contacting me to see if I've already fixed the issue. Ten times out of ten, I HAVE fixed it already.

Me again... While I have not yet attemped to import pre-ripped tracks again, I successfully used the current preview release to rip the first 3 tracks from a store-bought CD+G. I am hoping later developments will help simplify the ripping process but overall, I am impressed. I like the keyboard combos to trigger pitch and tempo controls and they worked nicely. I ran the video to a second monitor which likewise, worked great! This is turning out to be a solid product and I'm looking forward to see its continued deveopment.

It mystifies me that folks will try something, then if they can't figure it out, assume it's broken and go public with their opinion. I've got hundreds of happy folks importing left and right without any troubles. Did you bother to contact me to get some help importing your songs? I can't help you or fix it for you if you don't ask me to. Please write directy to me if it doesn't seem to function as advertised, ten times out of ten it's a simple step that was missed, and then I have the opportunity to make it right for you AND update the documentation so this doesn't happen to prospective future users. Thanks. - dave

First thing I want to acknowledge that this program is still under development and not a finished, polished version. After watching the development here for well over a year now, I decided to download it and try it out. I tried my iBook G4 as well as my G5 desktop with the same results... I can't import my MP3 and CDG files. I followed the elaborate instructions on the website, re-naming the files to k-tunes specifications (an intense pain with the number of tracks I would be using), zipping the MP3 and CDG files together... to no avail. I still can't import tracks. I want to be able to drag and drop the songs just like I do in iTunes. Another concern, I find the lack of documentation with the software annoying at the very least. Documentation os only available via he web which is inconveninent in my opinion. I want to be able to run my Karaoke collection on my iBook, with the MP3 and CDG files stored on an extearnal drive (the iBook only has 40 GB to start with). I still think kTunes shows the most promise for allowing me to do that eventually, but at least in my experience, it is not there yet.

This app is extremely buggy and un-Mac-ish. My criticisms: - The table view is very clearly not a normal OS X table view, given that the whole row doesn't highlight when you select something. - The purple "jukebox" view at the top occasionally moves left and obscures the control buttons. - The search field is not a real Mac OS X search field. - Every single button along the bottom of the app does nothing except for the plus button on the far left; the browse button also does nothing. You shouldn't put them in the UI if they're unimplemented. - In the preferences window, the buttons and horizontal separator don't move with the bottom of the window as it resizes. - The info window doesn't work appropriately on multiple selections. - The next and back buttons in the info window tend to destroy the tags on the tracks they're modifying. - The handling of .zip files is extremely cumbersome--not only does the program has to launch Stuffit, but it has to do it every time! Why not cache the extracted files! What's more, why not do the unzipping yourself? There are many open-source implementations you might use. - One can't drag files into the library table view or onto the app's icon. - Deleting a playlist causes a crash every few tries. - Deleting tracks from the library only works sometimes. - Smart playlists aren't actually smart playlists--one can't specify criteria; he has to choose from a predetermined list. - Controls across the program are non-standard, render oddly, have wrong fonts, don't work with standard contextual menus, and so on. - Sorting by artist doesn't sort alphabetically by album within the artist as expected. - The rendered graphics are chunky; why not anti-alias them? - The program has crashed on me five times since I installed it sixteen hours ago. I blame most of the un-Mac-ness on not using Cocoa, but it's probably too late to switch over now. However, for all its faults, the app does its job in most cases: it can play CDG files. Furthermore, the pitch and tempo modification controls work well and are extremely useful. But there's no -way- I'm going to pay for an app this unpolished and un-Mac-like. Yes, this is still under development, things aren't finished, etc--I'm a Mac developer, too; I understand--but you simply can't put features into a release that are this buggy or unfinished. It's unprofessional, and what's -worse- is charging for it. If you're going to release software in this condition, don't ask people to pay for it. Or at least ask for a -dramatically- reduced rate.

Here's what I'm looking for (wishful thinking perhaps)... • We have several hundred CD+G disks that we would need to be able to rip to the hard drive. • We need the ability to burn replacement CD+G disks when one is damaged (It would be a while before we could switch all systems to computer). • We want to be able to sort songs by Title, Artist, Publisher, Disk Number, Track Number, and we want to search any of these categories. • We want do do it on Mac. If you can give me that, I'll give you my money.

I was wondering if you had any sort of timetable as far as a finished version goes. I understand that you are still in development which can be a long process. I'm curious more than anything.
